VX-64 Plugin Missing
Hi I upgraded from Sonar VS to Sonar 8.5 and now when I try to load the VX-64 plugin it says that its missing. Aren''t plugins supposed to migrate across when you upgrade? Thanks in advance Mick

you should be able to insert the instal disk and manually select the plug ins you want. It 'should' be there if you had it installed on your machine previously but if not, installing from the disk should only take a moment.

Did you download Sonar 8.5? Or did you install from DVD?

I installed 8.5 from a DVD and left Sonar VS on my computer. I tried to load VX-64 from the Sonar 8.5 disc but it's not on there.

daveny5 Its called Vocal Strip. Are you looking for that? Yes. But its not on the Sonar 8.5 disc is it? At least I can't find it. Its on the VS-100 disc and I have reloaded it but it still won't open in Sonar 8.5 even tho it's listed as an option when I try to insert an effect onto an audio track. Mick

You say that the VX-64 is listed and available to select and insert onto your track, but what do you mean it "won't open"? Do you see an error message? Or do you click on the effect and then nothing happens?

I'm trying to launch VX-64 Vocal Strip plug in on Sonar 8.3.1, and although the plug-in opens, I get an error message that reads: "VocalStrip is not properly installed. Please reinstall it using your original CD." I'm not able to find the plug in on my Sonar 8 or Sonar 8.5 installation discs. I tried downloading the 8.3.1 patch, hoping a re-installation of 8.3.1 would also reinstall VX-64 and fix whatever went wrong, but I had no such luck after installation. Any ideas on what to do? Does anyone know where I can get the installation files on the "original CD" (whatever that CD is) so that I can try re-installing it? BTW, I'm running the 32-bit version of 8.3.1. Thanks in advance, Vivek

I think if you try and simply locate the dll on the DVD and copy it across then it won't work. You'll have to do a partial install from the DVD just as though you are going to do a full install, but then deselect everything you don't want installed and just leave the VX64 checked. Apologies if you know this and are already following these steps - but this should work!

Look for it in the Plug-In Manager. It should be listed under VST Audio Effects and it should be located in: c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\Vocal Strip\VX64_VocalStrip_64.DLL (for the 64-bit version). AFAIK: I believe the VX-64 is 64-bit only and so it won't work on the 32-bit installation, but I have not been able to confirm that and I don't have the 32-bit version installed.

I'm running 8.3.1 Producer edition. The VX-64 was new to Sonar 8.5 so it was not available in 8.3.

If you have the 8.5 installation disks, why are you still running 8.3? It's a completely safe upgrade, and you'll not only pick up the VX-64 vocal strip but the more useful PX-64 percussion strip as well.

I have Sonar 8.5 64-bit running on a Win7 64 machine, but I have version 8.3.1 32-bit running on my WinXP 32 machine. I was under the impression that 8.3.1 was better for a 32-bit operating system than 8.5. Is my understanding wrong? If it's not a problem for me to run 8.5 on my 32-bit machine, I may just do that if it solves the VX-64 problem. However, I managed to get VX-64 installed in 8.3.1, as I believe it came with that update. I never sought out that plug-in specifically... it simply appeared in my VST list after upgrading 8.0 to 8.3.1. Best, Vivek

32 bit 8.5 ran fine for me on a 32bit Win XP SP1 machine until I retired the machine last year.

I'm still running 32-bit 8.5. No problems at all. The VX-64 was definitely part of 8.5. But I'm certain it would be compatible with 8.3 as well. You could install 8.5, and if there was any kind of problem, just not use it. You'd still get the vocal and percussion strips for 8.3, plus the TL-64 tube leveler, the TS-64 transient designer, and the older but still-useful Studioverb plugin.
