Valentine's Day Song - Say You Love Me
Here's another one Dave and I did last summer. He's singing all the vocals and I'm playing all the instruments. It's an old obscure Rick Nelson song. Track Notes: Sonar 8.5.3 x64 Session Drummer 3 Dim Pro - Strings True Piano x64 - Piano Fender Squier Precision Bass Fender San Miguel Acoustic I used V-vocal extensively on the vocals to even out volume fluctuations. I wanted to see how it worked as apposed to heavy compression. I didn't use any pitch correction on this. Seemed fitting to put it out there for Valentine's Day. It's a nice mellow love song. "Say You Love Me" Ok but we'll have to be discrete... It's a pretty song, gives me an Everley Brothers vibe? But it feels a little wet to me.

If I were looking at this from the perspective of "today's time" I could see how a person might go for mixing it in a different fashion. However this mix gives me the impression that you and or those involved were going for a more "in the tradition of" goal in the way it's produced and mixed. It sounds so genuine to the time and era. The performance is great. Everything is "right there" It is very impressive in how its performed and mixed. I find myself lately commenting on some songs here where I'm just going wow. Not much left to say except "great job"

Hey Bub, maybe not my cup of tea musically but this is simply excellent. The mix is lush, with everything crisp and at the perfect level; neat guitar break too mate Cool

Good one. It's definitely in the spirit of the Everlys. Kind of puts into perpsective how dry even fairly 'wet' stuff is today.

I remember this one and you have done an absoflippinlutely terrific job. I love the mix. It did have that retro kind of feel where the vocals were not overstated and they did not crowd out the rest of the song. I love the echo kinda sound on the vox. I have been searching for that on stuff I have been doing but have missed it by a mile. How did you get that? Freddy J

You sure got that 50's vibe down pat. My only crit is that I think the pad could come down just a touch. But another nice era tune. Well excecuted! I'm glad I'm not the last dinosoar left ;>) Daryl

Hi everyone. Thanks for the great feedback! I can tell you a lot of work went in to this song. Editing the vocals alone took over 2 weeks at 3 ~ 4 hours a night. Only the two of us worked on this, Dave did the vocal's in NJ, and I did all the music, mixed, and mastered it here in IA. @ Freddy J: It's hard to explain how I did the vocals so I made a quick video to show what effects I used. The vocal input was around -13.5 going in to the effects. I used Sonitus Comp on the main vocal track, VX-64 and Sonitus Reverb on the vocal buss. Link to the vid. It's a Shockwave file. Either download it and drag it in to a blank page on your web browser or let it load in the window on Box.net then Right click and choose 'Show All' then play the video. To make full screen click the monitor icon in the bottom right hand corner of the video. Freddy J, feel free to PM me and I can try to help if you'd like. Thanks again for all the great responses! Bub. :)
