Valhalla reverbs - which one do you like?
I am ready to purchase a Valhalla reverb. These are the choices: 1. Vintage 2. Room 3. Shimmer What would you recommend for a good overall general purpose reverb? I don't have a lot to spend and I just want to try something new. I have read many good things about Valhalla and I think I want "Room". Any suggestions? Thanks. Rimshot

I have 'Room' and 'Vintage. Bought 'Room' first and it is still my personal preference for algo reverbs.
Purrrfect Audio DAW here. Wow!...

+1 on Room. You can download it and also Vintage and try them out in advance to see which you prefer.

The way the developer describes it, Vintage puts back in some of the ideosyncracies (read: "defects") that Room goes to great lengths to take out. Those peculiarities are considered part of the "vintage" sound, and that's why it was done, and why it was named "Vintage". For myself, VRoom is so versatile and so difficult to make sound bad, I can't imagine using something else just because it more closely emulates less-sophisticated devices of yesteryear. Then again, I don't have VVV - for that reason - so I could be totally wrong. I just know that since I've had VRoom I've lost interest in looking at any other reverbs. I'm set.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I say that because I'm broke too. Hmmmm..... ValhallaRoom Lexicon LXP UAD EMT 140 UAD EMT 250 Pantheon IK's CSR 64bit The ONLY verb left for me to get is an actual Lexi 480L (OKAY actually the Lexi PCM Bundle would be more reasonable and it really would be the last verb/delay I get).

For general purpose Room or Vintage are good. IMO Room is better for that real room sound. It's very smooth and natural. Vintage is modeled to sound like older hardware and although it doesn't sound as natural it sounds good in its own way. For example I'd use Room for orchestral or acoustic music and vintage for electronic music or 80s music. Of course there is a lot of overlap so you can use either for most things.

Had to sleep on the porch for a couple weeks when the wife found out, but got them all. Really elegant. Thought I'd ended my reverb search till Lexicon came up to compliment the tools. Smart decision on my part was to leave the tent out on the cliff for a couple more weeks. John

If I had to pick only one, it'd be Room, however I use VVV quite a bit as well.

Room is the all purpose one. I own it and it's easy to use. Vintage is good too I believe.

I just rolled the dice and went with Vintage figuring I was a vintage kind of guy. I used it exclusively on my song that is currently in the songs forum and absolutely love this reverb. If Room is even better, I might have another reverb to pick up yet.

I like Room best, mostly for the same reasons as Bit. BUT, I have two hardware reverb boxes (Lexicon PCM-90 and LXP-1) that I use constantly, and they do a pretty good job of emulating the idiosyncrasies one might expect. That said, I will eventually add Vintage to my collection. But my next addition will be Shimmer. I absolutely love it. I should also confess that I use the UAD Plate 140 as my final glue reverb on almost every project... it's not officially part of the template yet, but it might as well be. I also use the UAD Lexicon 224, but I am still learning how to use it, It is a LOT more complex than I remember<G>, and often I just don't have the time to tweak.
The UAD Plate, on the other hand, is incapable of sounding bad. I'd argue that this one plug-in is reason enough to buy at least a Solo card<G>! I grew up using plates (and springs) and this plug-in is like an improved version of a physical plate. If that makes any sense.

I use both Room and Vintage.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I don't record without Valhalla Room. I never bothered buying Vintage but I am sure it is great as well. There are so many great presets and custom reverb sounds that come with it. I even downloaded a bunch that were posted in user forums. Inexpensive, easy to use, small CPU footprint, great sound and easy to program. I probably use the gated reverbs to most. In digital recording they don't sound gated. They just sound great. Greated Reverb?

I will gladly go to my room now because I have installed VRoom and it sounds awesome! I used the "jazz room" sound on a rough live jazz mix and it really sounds great. I am very pleased with the sound and the low CPU hit. A happy room camper. Rimshot
