Velocity for all or for none?

The Velocity and Pedal displays in PRV are still horrible. But now, a new issue has cropped up, apparently since I upgraded to X3d.

Seems that now the choice is to see velocity for every note in the track, or none at all. If I choose "Show Velocity on selected notes only", all velocities disappear no matter what I've selected, and the Show Velocity option is unchecked. So I check Show Velocity, and now "Show Velocity on selected notes only" is unchecked. It's simple little regressions like this that are putting my project way behind schedule. Confusing and so irritating.

Assuming the above issue has a simple fix...

When I select some notes, and then want to adjust the velocities by drawing in the velocities pane, seems that as soon as I click into the velocities pane it goes back to affecting all notes. For example, say I have a melody line in a track thick with chords underneath it. I want to contour the velocity of just the melody line. Can't be done. I select the melody, see only those velocities, and then try to using the drawing tool to adjust them, but it goes back to showing me all velocities, so it affects the chords' notes as well. SO annoying.

I know, I know, move your melody into a different track. But wait - that's a PITA too. How about select a bunch of notes, right-click on them, and choose "Move selected notes to a new track". Oh, wait-- right clicking deletes a note. Well, that's handy I guess, I could select a bunch of notes to delete, wait -- you can only delete them one at a time unless you use the keyboard.

And why is it sometimes I can see the pedal markings and the velocities in the same pane, and sometimes not? Sometimes I want to see them both both only edit one of them? Sometimes I get this functionality. It's nice. But I completely don't understand how to turn it on and off.

Sonar is putting me in a grouchy mood this week.

The PRV has long had issues with setting and persisting various settings in the PRV. But if you set Show Velocity on Selected Only, you should see all velocities when nothing is selected and only velocities on selected when you make a selection

Then use the dedicated Draw tool, not the Smart tool, to draw velocities showing only on selected notes in the velocity lane. Attempting to use the Smart tool deselects notes as soon as you click in the velocity lane which defeats the purpose.

The situation where you end up with both controllers and velocities in the same controller lane is actually a bug that results from certain sequences of view changes and controller pane deletions in the PRV. I have some notes somewhere on how to make it happen, but it's and unintended state that you probably wouldn't want to to get used to.

B-fly, I am getting the same behavior as jko.

When I have "Show Velocity" checked I see all velocity. When I check "Show Velocity On Selected Notes Only" all velocities disappear. Even if I have notes selected, it will not show the velocites of those selected notes.

However, I can go to "Track/Pick Track/select a track (or if the track is already selected, just leave it selected. IOW don't click on anything) and then click "OK" and the velocities then show for the selected notes.

JKO let me know if the "select Track" works for you too. I will try on a second machine.

"Select Track" did indeed fix this issue. Thanks for the workaround!

... But now the Scrub Tool stopped working. The keystroke (J) has no effect. I checked the key bindings and it's still there as it's been all along, but today, nothing. Left and re-entered PRV, no go. ARRGGGHHH!!!

The issue in the original post has been confirmed by CW and listed here (CWBRN-22587): http://forum.cakewalk.com...spx?m=2952585&fp=3

Another workaround is to hit Shift+C twice.
