Velocity setting of P5 overwrite keyboard setting?

Me again.

I remember when I was learning how to use my Edirol-PCR50 there was a setting for aftertouch and some other things. But when I had problems with velocity and the strength with which I was hitting the keys I just selected "constant velocity." I have a new VST that is responding to velocity/pressure of key presses. Should I try and resolve this issue in P5, VST, or Keyboard?

Just curious if between the three there is a master/slave relationship?

Thanks in advance if you answer.

I would suggest investigating the "Velocity Curves" feature of your keyboard. Constant velocity is good for organs and such, but if you're using any other types of sounds in a synth like Dimension then you're really missing out on a lot of expressive control.

You should be able to select from among several "velocity curves" in your keyboard's programming control. Some curves respond weakly so you have to have a heavy touch to get more velocity, and others curves are yielding lots of velocity with very little effort. You just need to try each one to see what fits your style the best. You may also find that you like to use different curves with different synth patches.

techead, you are right, I forgot about that ish. The EnsoniqMR76 I had did that and I didnt get it. When I push my keys I think I was getting more than I wanted but trying to adjust my key pressure was also off.

Thanks on the keyboard side but isnt there cases where P5 can override keyboard settings?

Project5 let's you edit velocity values of MIDI data that has been recorded to a track.

You can also configure a track or synth to respond or not respond to a range of velocities.

But Project5 by itself does not scale your velocity values like the keyboard velocity curves do, but I did notice that in my MFX plugin set there is a "Cakewalk Velocity MFX" plugin. This will allow some manipulation of the velocity. Take a look at it as well to see if it has anything interesting for you.

Ah, fellow Illinoisan! Cool! Nice to know Project5 is not alone in this state...
