Velocity's LM4 implementation

Hey gang, I have a question for those that are familiar with the LM4 .txt file, can any of you see if i am missing something in the file below, when i load this .txt file in velocity it puts all the samples in the first cell of velocity, im not exactly sure what to change to have each sample go to a specific cell, as always your suggestions are appreciated.

here is what the txt file looks like

Just a guess, but perhaps the first digit of each row gives the cell number (1-18)?

thats the ticket! thanks, I was wondering why Dr-008 would load each sample to different cells and velocity and RMIV wouldn't.
    Thanks again!

Phew! Back to 50% on the day for my guesses. My previous one (on the thread about the VST adapter) was wrong, as you spotted, but looks like I got lucky here.

    Glad it helped.

edit: Any idea what all those other numbers mean? Some of them look like note numbers, I guess others are pan and gain settings...

Yeah i opend up the File in Awave studio and each sample had an actual Root like C3, C#3, D3, E3 etc....
so i was stumped as to why Veloctiy and RMIV wouldn't load each sample to a different cell, where as DR-008 loaded each sample to a different cell fine.

I have no clue I can assume it lists the basics like volume, tune, Velocity, ADSR?? but i wouldn't know for sure.

I went down this road quite a while back, Zun. All I was looking for was an explanation as to the parameters, then I'd take it from there if I found the format to be useful. I gave up on it shortly after that, after finding that related information on the LM4 implementation is extremely difficult to find. There's references to a Steinberg free editor all over the 'net [here's but one example], but repeated tries at dissecting all of their related websites have come up empty.

Evidently, Steinberg no longer offers this download, unless I've missed something. It was extended to users with no tech support, and no guarantees of any bug fixes. I fail to see how that differs from their commercial offerings, but I guess that it's good to set some ground rules. I did find another editor on the last go-'round, which is also "discontinued" for PC. But it's still available for download [click here for Ezee LM]. I haven't tried it yet, but any insight into the scripting rules would save some trouble later on.

I can't see where it'd be all that difficult to 'trial & error' it out in Velocity, and see what pops up in changed base parameters. I'm going to try that route when I get some time. I always thought that the LM4 format had potential for file-sharing at a common meeting place like Project5.com, but I'd assume that the sample exchange would still prove to be problematic. I really want to find out about the process; simply because "it's there".

Well, I'm going to have a couple of guesses to get things rolling for those who have a bit more time to experiment:

The first digit is the cell number, and I'd be almost sure that the two numbers after the sample filename are the max and minimum velocities for the layer for that sample. The next two numbers I would guess are the lower and upper MIDI note number that the cell responds to.

All the other numbers? Well, that's for the experimenters...
