Versioning 'Revert' is broken -- but worked the next time

I was quite pleased to see and start using the automated versioning system, as this is something I've been doing manually for a real long time.

However, I attempted to use it (File/Revert) and it fails to do so.

The little selection window is empty!! No choices at all.
I do see the files with apparently GUID extensions in the Project folder as I was verifying the function of the versioning which seemed to be working nicely. Wrong!!

I'll try renaming/reloading manually to backup my project due to a lost clip associated with a 64b VST losing its display. At least the files have time stamps from the OS to help sort things out. I had set the auto-save to 10 min's which clearly isn't long enough when sorting these things out, so that got trashed as well.

Back to manual versioning for now.

Edited subject line so see next post.

While sorting out why the step sequencer doesn't update's it's drum map (I have to reselect patches to get updated note titles), I exited/restarted and after seeing the odd version behavior I am now keeping an eye on it. Today, after a couple of 'save as' then save repeats I see the earlier versions as expected. Not sure why they didn't show up earlier.

My strategy is (ideally) long auto-bu's, an hour or so, then manually saving every 5 minutes  or when stable, starting another 'new' thing, or just walking away for a bit. Short autosave times end up keeping problems and I end up needing to go back further, thus versioning. Plus. autosaves work all night every 5 minutes if I get interrupted, by say, sleep. I really like the control bar shortcut panel. Thanks.

With all your threads you've recently logged here I think you are far better off creating them in the Sonar forums for troubleshooting first.

We really need clearly steps to reproduce from a new project for these forums, see here for a good example:
    http://forum.cakewalk.com/CWBRN22220-Screensets-dont-remember-the-status-of-Xray-m2962126.aspx

If others can reproduce over there then you could log steps to repro over here, as you can see there are not that many people responding to the threads...

There are more eyeballs in the Sonar forums and not many in these forums, there's a good chance your issues could get ignored.

    Thanks

Good point. I was a bit reluctant to just start putting rare/specific issues in the general forums. I generally only get about 1/2 my crashes to get reproducible, but I want to at least report them as issues.

At least the fault reporter worked today when it crashed while I was having lunch. Left it stable, came back an ~2 hours later, CTD. I'm not quite sure how to be more specific about what conditions initiated the CTD. I sent the mini-dmp. If I had to speculate, I'd guess that maybe the autosave interfered with something? But I'm not really interesting in debugging these things. I'm just reporting my experiences and inconsistencies as I find them.

I think I've sorted out the drum map concern, but that's another topic and I haven't opened a thread for it. I did update this thread to report that the verify now does appear to be working. It did not do this yesterday, so there may be some initialization, first time use thing. I don't know and am not even sure how to reproduce it. Seemed like a problem to me. I did play with one of the save version files that didn't show up in the File/Revert, but just to see if I could recover a 'lost clip'. I was just getting started, so started over rather than attempt to debug/reproduce it. Not my job, and its distracting enough sending FReports/Forum posts/web searches/help searches, etc.

I really like the product and am trying to help it improve. While not a particularly sophisticated user, I am not a novice either.

I'm open to either path, but only occasionally even attempt to reproduce really odd problems. I guessed that this forum would be better for observations of odd things. Maybe a 'Diagnostic/Weird Things' forum would work better to at least try a collect the odd reports of problems until some patterns turn up. The File/Revert not showing the files is odd, and a problem I had just yesterday. Losing files is not trivial which is why I was actually confirming that it worked and more importantly that I knew how to use it.

If not, I'll just use this forum for the dead-on reproducible stuff, but I suspect that would just be more repeats of stuff 'already on the list'.

So, should these 'observations' go into the general forum? (I do try to put questions/observations there for more general things with hopes of a helpful pointer.) This is my forum of lost causes.
