I'll just add to that. I agree it's a pleasure to work in it.
Last night I moved a song that I had last saved in X1 into X3 - and applied some new touches which became available from either X2 or X3. It was fun to move it into the new version and add the touches. Sounds absolutely great.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I have to chime in and say that I'm very pleased too. I started with SONAR on 8.5 and it was very unstable, to the point of being unusable. X3, on the other hand, has been rock solid for me...even more so than Cubase 7, and on par with Studio One 2. To me, the interface is awesome...clean and modern, and just plain intuitive (for most things anyway). G

pro tools is way better. im only kidding, I don't even use pro tools, I use Cubase, im only kidding, I don't use Cubase either. I user reaper, im still kidding around. I use sonar and I love it. many have not been as happy with the X series as they were pre-8.5. myself I have had great results from the get go.. well actually, x1b or c. after that I have been very happy and have had no show stoppers, just a couple minor annoyance's, but nothing I have been too annoyed with to the point of complaining. over all the x series and especially X3 here has been awesome. glad others share the same sentiments.

When I used pro tools I felt like a demented parrot trying to make sense of the words my owners were teaching to me.
I remember asking some of my 'music production wizard' friends for help, and they would just say 'just click on buttons and things randomly until something happens'.
This one time I stepped into a music production room for the first time alone, and the technician was on a 15 minute lunch break, and everything was turned off. The sheer hopelessnes ... I actually texted one of the wizard friends to ask how to turn the Mac on ... Because they didn't have power buttons on the front :x
Sonar X3 on the other hand, 100% idiot proof. Just watch a few videos, and now you know everything. Everything just works, its easy, I only hate that I didn't find it sooner. And I get to use it on my uber self built gaming PC.

As I learn more and more of shortcut/hotkey keystrokes to move around in the program, it has become very intuitive to me. Then again, I've been tinkering with this stuff since before I was waiting on *this* upgrade (and hoping my 8088 could run it): So considering that there is even a Windows version of Cakewalk now, that can also now record audio and use cool things like F/X plugins, yeah, the latest version is pretty darn cool. lol

Now you made me totally hate X3. Worst butchering of a marvel series ever! It was just all wrong, nothing followed the original plots, because the change of director completely destroyed it!

bapuYeah, I remember punch cards too.
Boy that brings back "pleasant" memories. One of first circuit designs used a state-of-the-past super big IBM (360?)computer to "crunch the numbers". I would submit the circuit nodes, parameters, etc. on punch cards. A week later (the computer was at another site) the analysis would come back..."No convergence" (computer couldn't get an answer). Now I can get the same results on my computer in ms! :-) Walt

Yeah, I think that snark was intended for me, because I said we've got it good today by at least 20 year old standards...good thing I didn't go into the fact that Cakewalk wasn't even my first. They didn't make products for the Amiga. lol And I didn't do punch cards. I did do BASIC in junior high, though, on my homemade Heathkit 8086. But I ran my first Cakewalk sequencer on an XT clone around 23 years ago and feel qualified to say that we definitely have life by the short hairs given the fact that SONAR X3 even exists today and can do what it can do.

15 years ago all I had was a Yamaha keyboard and a cassette recorder. I recall using the 5 track recorder on my PSR-530 to record my early compositions for school and then recording those onto a cassette, and also I made quite an effort to manually write the scores by hand. Recording computers and software did exist back then, but they were highly expensive, and never mind trying to get an actual piano, they were huge and cost several thousands.
Now sonar easily handles all of that, and surprisingly even writes out the score for me too, and I also found a brand new DGX 630 a few years ago for just £415, which was an instant purchase (a bit more for the stool and pedals though).

I am also very pleased with x3!!! I was a layer guy but now see the light. Being able to click a clip and hear it over the other takes is a great time saver. I am quickly getting comfortable with the new workflow!!! A the color options rock and I'm color blind. I am close to finishing the writing phase of my first song. I look forward to mixing and mastering as always in Sonar! Thanks to the bakers and the great people on this forum!!! Happy and creative new year to all!!!

I can crash anything... ya ever heard of those kinda people???? I've spend years diddling around, making changes...from Sonar 5 up... it makes creating music difficult and really craps all over artistic inspiration...combine that with a less than rigorous personality...and I've done way less songwriting than I wanted... Has this changed? Yes... Have I crashed X3? Yes! was I doing stupid stuff? YES!!!!!!!!! But, for the first time in a real long time, I'm having fun; I'm able to let artistic inspiration flow and I'm learning all the amazing tools which actually work... I'm in heaven... Really...
