Very nice: MXR distortion Plus model

Hi found this floating around KVR, thought I'd throw a link this away for YE guitarists.
It's actually quite nice sounding with just the right tweaks available to tone it back a bit. Sounds very good when throttled down for a slightly edgy clean tone.

The same guy made this http://sites.google.com/site/distorque/home/vsts/rangebastard  its a vst of a Dallas Range Master. I discovered them over at  http://www.guitarampmodeling.com/index.php  There are forums for nearly all of the free and commercial amp sims there.

Tried it out this morning, then filed it away in my VSTPlugins\Rarely Used\Amp Sims and Distortion folder.

That collection is getting pretty big, but I still haven't found anything that really turns my crank. However, each one is different enough from the rest to justify its place in the toolbox. I'll hang on to this one and maybe someday it'll be just what I'm looking for.

I've actually found it more useful then the 20 different ABG and Lepou models I've collected. Those have been similarly filed. I've also filed away Amplitude II in the same drawer. I'm primarily a guitarist and I've weeded down all the try-outs to about 5 usable amp sims or distortion pedals. I used the MXR way back when they first came out in the mid 70's, I still have one of them. If you take it through it's paces and dial it down, it does give a nice overdrive when the high end and diode clipping are scaled back. Just my opinion of course: it's all about seasoning to taste after all.

One that continues to give me a really good clean to barely discernible over drive is the Arandaz White, used with a good quality compressor in front and tweaking the treble and drive down to almost nill, it gives me great dynamics. It's my go to, which will be slowly replaced by Scuffham.

Got a link for that? Never heard of it.

I'm always on the lookout for some not-so-hard distortion. Anybody can do fizz and crunch, but a nice Santana-esque mild overdrive is my holy grail.

Another one if some haven't hear of - Ignite Amps Tube Screamer clone (TS-999) and an amp or two. I'm okay with Amplitube, but these may be worth a try.

    Here it is.

Look for the white model.  Don't get me wrong this is used primarily for metal sounds.....which I don't do typically, but I use the low gain mode switch, run the gain very low... and keep the treble very low, then adjust the output level. It is very capable of crappy fizzy sounds, I promise, I just happened to stumble on a nice sound when dialing as much of that out as possible.
