Hi all, Can anyone direct me to what may be considered the standard/best/higher quality musical video production software? Perhaps that may work well with Sonar, there's very little documentation on video production in Sonar tutorials?

the best I've found for a little money is Sony Vegas Movie Studio. It started out as Sound Forge, so it's geared towards audio. It doesn't "work with " Sonar, but you can drag your audio mixes into Sound Forge and it's really a powerful video editing program for under $100 We have created lots of videos for clients in Atlanta Ga on it...you can also find a lot of 3rd party plugins, such as NewBlueFX that won't break the bank. Go to BMyers.com and there are tons of "how to " videos that will help Good Luck!

If you're talking "Pro Level" then you're talking cash... Nuendo, Media Composer, Vegas Pro, etc... If you just want a decent "consumer" level product that will do the job there is PowerDirector, Video Studio X9, Movie Studio, etc.... HitFilm Express is FREE...and can do a decent job... https://hitfilm.com/express
Just like DAW's ...it's all about personal budget and preference...

Another very powerful program and is FREE: Davinci Resolve from Blackmagic Designs. Brian PS It looks like there will be no new development for the Vegas line (I own Vegas Pro). :(

+100000000 for Sony Vegas. Very similar workflow to SONAR and tight adherence to Windows protocols, so you'll find it easy to learn.

I used Cyberlink's video and audio editing suite for years, but finally got sick and tired of their incessant follow-up marketing. Very intrusive. And a classic case of a subscription service done wrong. After that, I spent quite a bit of time reviewing video editors for Win10. I didn't want to give up all of the cool video FX PowerDirector had, but I also wanted to stop spending stupid money on app (suite) that got only occasional use. I settled on iSkysoft's Video Editor for Windows: https://www.iskysoft.com/video-editor-windows.html It lists for $50, but is currently on sale for $40. And it comes with tons of built-in FX; you don't need to purchase add-on packs. Upgrades are free for life. Worth a look, IMO. Demo version available.

Hi John, Numerous applications are often involved in higher-end video production. - Video Editing
- Compositing
- 3D modeling/animation
- Etc
Vegas Pro is a well-featured video editing/compositing application that's a an easy transition for DAW users. Vegas started years ago as a DAW application... and switched focus to video once Sony purchased it. Adobe After Effects is a popular VFX and compositing application. You can do all kinds of special-effects, advanced titling, etc with After Effects. Adobe Premier Pro is a well featured video editing/compositing application. IMO, It has some more advanced features than Vegas Pro... For a DAW user, it'll take a little more time to get up-to-speed. If you're wanting to work with 3D modeling/animation, Cinema 4D is fantastic. Not cheap... and very steep learning curve If you're new to working with video, I think Vegas Pro is the perfect introduction. Easy to get up and running... and can produce professional results Sony also offers Vegas Pro Suite (bundled with HitFilm Pro which is kind of like After Effects). This bundle is an excellent deal... and covers a lot of ground.

Fleer, You will need some time to learn the software. There is a lot to the program. Also, to take advantage of the program you need a reasonably powerful computer. Brian PS, they also have a free VFX program: Fusion 8. It's been used in many Hollywood films. Also, another program to look at is Lightworks. It's available as a free or paid versions in 32-Bit and 64-Bit versions.

Nothing nobody has not already said. Just another thumbs up. Sony programs really good. Cheap guy here and not spending the money for Vegas Pro. Have however used Home Studio Platinum with excellent results over the years. My usage way below what you guys probably need, but require the program to sync Sonar projects with the camera audio, replacing the camera audio. Totally solid and works with an intuitive interface. Of note, Home studio has the call response activation, so got my warez crack in order before morally buying the license. Over the years, have had to reinstall, migrate licenses here and there for various reasons. Reactivation online has never been an issue. One click and done, so got to thank the company. Home studio is cool. John

I'm using Sony Vegas and Corel Visual Studio. Just a note if support is important to the OP : I do prefer using Sony Vegas, but lately I had an issue (after I removed a damaged graphic card and it's driver and replaced it with a different brand card), Vegas will not show any option at the video render selection - and I wrote to tech support. Till now (a month), there is no reply, beside the automated support ticket reply. Due to this, I upgraded my Corel Visual Studio to the latest version with multi-cam editing ..encountered some problem (not rendering, that is fine), wrote to Corel and got back detailed help instruction in just a few days. Edit : Just an update that my Sony Vegas rendering issue is now resolved via trial and error running "dxdiag" (google) / resetting the current video cards / performing a Windows update - not sure which one fixed it.

Vegas Pro here too. There's been some concern on the Sony creative software forums about the future of Vegas Pro. It hasn't been updated in a while and sounds like support is non existent. Vegas is a good video editor; it would be too bad if Sony decides to abandon it.

SONY Vegas, at least for the PC. Simple, elegant and instinctive. -$100 for the studio version, for editing etc., while the "full version" has lots of filters/transitions etc.

I'm using Sony and Corel video studio. Sony is great because it allows you to use vsts, so if my audio is noisy, bassy, etc I can easily fix it. Its a life saver knowing that if you say something to soft you can always compress your audio to get a consistent level. I use Corel too, which IMO is snappier, but it doesn't allow you to use vsts, so it gives me too much of a headache when it comes to audio levels. Corel comes with great screen recording software though.

I'd rather say, you need an extremely powerful computer. I have a Quadro series nVidia grapics adapter, yet the program's setup wizard says my video card is not powerful enough.

If you use Fusion 7 or 8, my advice is to save often. Crashes at the drop of a hat... After Effects and Hit Film Pro are far more stable for VFX. Vegas Pro and Premier Pro are both pretty stable NLE applications. For 3D Rendering/Animation, Cinema 4D is very stable.

Hi Soundwise, With Resolve 12.5 they changed the GPU compute requirement. Your graphics card needs to support CUDA 2.0 now. Go here to check if your graphics card is a legacy card. If it doesn't support CUDA 2.0 then you could try the older Resolve 12.3.2 to see if you even want to update. You'll need to scroll down the list to March 18 to get the download link.
