Video projects get stuck on X1

I am trying to score for a short film in X1. When I load videos longer than 30 seconds, Sonar gets stuck when I try to scroll back and forth. It takes a few minutes to scroll horizontally , to the extent that I cannot work with videos at all in Sonar. I am on Windows 7, Intel i7 processor with 8 gigs of RAM. Not sure if there is some buffer setting or something like that which will fix this issue.
Thanks in advance.

What file format and codec is the video file?

I am by NO means up to speed on video in Sonar.

There are now 2 engines, and some video works on one or the other, and some video may not work at all.

Sooooo, check your format and post back, and we can try to help you figure a course of action.  It likely just needs conversion into some other format, as far as I am aware.  The other choice would be to try to switch to the other video engine and see if that does the trick.

I believe X1 only has the DirectShow video engine. The Media Foundation video engine was introduced in X3d; switching video engines would not be an option without upgrading to X3.

Sorry - I had missed the X1 part of the original post.

Please forget I mentioned switching video engines - your Sonar version does not have 2 engines to switch between.

Try hiding the video thumbnails and see if it speeds up.

Try installing klite video codec pack (free)

I tried closing the thumbnail view and also installed the klite codec. The situation is better than the past now, but X1 still takes a 30 to 60sec break some times when I scroll back and forth. Im trying to see if there is a pattern on when this happens. At the current rate it is still unusable. I have to try converting the mp4 to avi.

Most 64 bit DAWs don't handle video well if it's a Quicktime format.  I used Studio One for the only video project I've worked with.  None of them are perfect.

Lagarith is a great codec for .avi ... makes the big ones small (file size and sometimes consequent CPU load) and looks great also.
    http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html

Try a smaller resolution also. No need to use 1920x1080 in Sonar.
Use an intermediate ( smaller ) resolution.
Also make sure the frame rate is set correctly in Sonar.

.mpg has always worked well for me in older versions of Sonar.
