Video stopped working in 64 bit

Hi all, have been migrating from my old Q6600 32 bit to an i7 64 Win7 system.  Both running Sonar 8.5.3.  I'm used to working with video - have been doing it with Sonar for years - but I'm having a problem with it in 64 bit land.  The window opens ok, I can load a video, the timecode numbers go round on playback, but the video itself doesn't animate, it just sits on a still frame.  The "animate" option IS checked.  I once did see it animate, but the moment I went to resize the window it stopped.  The system generally seems to be working great otherwise - it's a fast processor, 12gb of RAM.  Anyone got any ideas?

Just checking the obvious, but is there any audio in the project? Sonar needs audio running in order to play back videos.

    Bags of it!

I'm using 2 Radeon HD5450s to drive three displays... wonder if there are any complications with this?

What video format and codec is it? And are you using 32 bit Sonar in 64 bit windows?

Video is an AVI with DIVX pro codec, as I've used for the last 2 years successfully on the 32 bit version.  Plays fine in Media Player.

Again, checking the obvious, but do you have a 64 bit Direct Show codec for DIVX installed?  The ability to play it in Media Player isn't meaningful since Sonar and Media Player use different methods of playing videos.  Sonar uses the older Direct Show method, and IIRC, Media Player uses the newer Media Foundation method.

I have the best success under Win 7 64 bit with an AVI and MJPEG codec, with a close second going to AVI with mpeg4 codec.

Ah, now that doesn't sound obvious to me at all!  In fact I'm pretty confused... I installed 64 bit DIVX on the machine (which is all I've ever done in the past in 32 bit land)... are you saying I need to do something else?

Hmm... what I haven't done yet is enter my DIVX Pro code (thought this was just for making divx files), and I see on the divx website that the Pro version has a direct show codec.  Something to try later, thanks very much!

I'm not familiar enough with DIVX to know... I know what it is, but I've rarely used it.  It could be that the 32 bit version of DIVX had a direct show codec, but the 64 bit version doesn't since Windows Media Foundation is the new preferred method of playback.  But that's just guessing on my part. Is there a DIVX forum that you could ask?

Thanks Steve.... hmm.... I've taken a look and actually it does all appear to be installed normally.  Because WMP plays the files ok, I'm not sure how much use the divx forums would be, it does look like a Sonar issue.
