Vienna Ensemble MIDI weirdness
Windows 7 64bit
Sonar X1 Expanded
Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 + OctoPre
Using a Roland A80 (Ancient MIDI controller, but I love it) through the Saffire MIDI input.
I launch an instance of Vienna Ensemble (using Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition "plus"). Set up an orchestra (or whatever) in the Ensemble interface. Get my MIDI channels all set up so that I can trigger Violins from one channel and Violas from another, etc.
Start working in X1 building my song.
"Raise" the Vienna Ensemble interface (that's what they call it: "Raise") to edit some articulations (or whatever).
Now I can't trigger anything. Playing keys on the A80 controller does nothing.
Switch back to X1 and everything is working normally.
This wouldn't be a big deal but I can't seem to figure out how to audition articulations or new instruments if I can't trigger them with the Ensemble interface is raised.
Am I missing something? A setting that allows X1 to share the midi controller with Vienna Ensemble?
One thing I haven't tried is a USB controller but I don't have one at the house at the moment.

Go to Edit, Preferences, Under Audio go to playback and recording, Uncheck 'Share drivers with other programs'. That should do the trick. :)

Hey Blogman,
That was it. It seems counter-intuitive at first but it makes sense after you think about it. I don't want VE to share the driver I want Sonar to be in charge.
