Vienna Ensemble Pro & Sonar X2

Hi there!  Before I ask at vi-control or vsl-forums: is anyone here using VEP and X2 ?  My question is: can you (properly!) automate the ProChannel-EQ on audio tracks that are fed from an VEP-Instance?
I'm using X1d here, and I sure can automate. However, upon playback ONLY the buttons are moving visually, but the EQ is NOT working (e.g. the curve is not moving at all, neither does the sound change).  This is a very weird thing, and I don't know if it's a VEP-bug or a Sonar-bug. Well ... I kind of believe it's a Sonar-bug. During recording the automation, the EQ works properly - the curve moves and the sound is affected. But as I said, upon READING the automation, only the Pro-Channel buttons move visually - no change to the sound whatsoever. (And yes, READING is enabled - and yes, you can see the automation curve on the track, and yes, it is designated to the pro-channel-value, and yes, the EQ is ON.)  It must have to do something with the VEP audio feed not being recognized properly, because other tracks work fine.
Bug - or am I missing a special setting?  Thank you! :)

I have VEP and X2, but rarely use the two together (I primarily use VEP with Pro Tools).  If you don't find a solution here, I'll attempt to replicate your problem when I get home from work this evening and report back.

Hey Grent, I just tried automating VEP instruments in X2 and it worked perfectly.  I automated volume, pan, and ProChannel EQ sweeps by both manually drawing them in and by writing automation in real-time.  The knobs responded as drawn and sounded exactly the way they should have during playback.  This was using 64-bit Sonar X2 and 64-bit VEP with the latest build (5.1.11849, dated Nov 18 2012).  I guess make sure that you've got the latest update.  I don't have X1 installed at the moment, but maybe somebody here who does (and has VEP) can give it a shot and confirm that it's an X1 bug.  Good luck!

Ok, it does not seem to be a VEP-problem.

I just bounced down every track to audio-files for a clean new stem-project just for mixdown.

And AGAIN I got a BUS that is not handling automation as usual. Then I fiddle around quite a lot, and suddenly it works.

Try out another Bus - boom, same odd behavior again. No trying to fiddle again. But it's not easy to reproduce.

Must have to do something with the order in which certain buttons are pressed.

OK, it seems, I found it:

You may not automate EQ-button-on and then tweak the curves.
You may not automate EQ-button-on and start the next automation recording BEFORE the EQ-button is set to on.

=> You must automate the EQ-button-on first, and then, in another go, starting when the EQ-button is already on (this is the important part), then automating the buttons works correctly and the curves are moving accordingly.

This is X1 only, in X2 they said they overhauled automation big time. So I guess, this problem is gone in X2.

That's a strange one. Thanks for sharing the workaround.
