"Viewing Waveforms" Automatically?

Did I dream this?
 
There is a way to preview the waveform of an existing Audio track that is in the process of playing.
 
The waveform is displayed (I believe) on an entirely different track (maybe in the Bus view?? Not sure.
 
Does anyone know what the hell I'm talking about here, or is Alzheimer's finally setting in?

    When I want  to visually preview the audio of a track that's playing, usually when working with an envelope, I maximize the track by clicking the square. I don't know of any other way to do it.
