I just downloaded the free trial of X3. Maybe it's just me, but the one thing that aggravates me with the X series is that I can't find a way to have JUST a Console view and then switch to JUST an Edit view. I know it's tacky to mention other names here, but I can toggle effortlessly between the Edit view and the Console view in PT. The X series throws up so many mixed screens at me at once it's confusing and aggravating. I'm tired of fighting all these windows. I don't want to see parts of an endless variety of screens. I want to see JUST the Console view when I want to see it. I want to see JUST the Edit view when I see it. Is there a way to cut through all this visual clutter and just have what you want to see showing and nothing else? I've been away from Sonar for a while, partly due to this. I'm hoping some of you can give me some suggestions on how to simplify the screen issue. Obviously, intuition isn't working too well for me. Thanks in advance! JGP

Screensets may do what you want - I think they do but I don't know exactly what you're trying to achieve, so they may not be 100%.

Sonar has probably the most comprehensive set of view features in a DAW... your answer lies in screensets..... fyi there are a huge number of detailed tutorials on Sonar that would be worth viewing before, or as you dive in.

I don't have any trouble switching from a full screen (F11) Console View (no control Bar - press C to show hide it)... to a Track view... shift+D. Works very fast and at low latency. While tracking, it is safer to use D or Shift+D than to use the screensets (which are the numbers on the top of your keyboard). Screensets remember how you left them unless you lock them. Locked screensets always come up as they were locked. I'm so quick with opening and closing the things I want, that I often forget screensets unless I want layouts of FX modules across the screen - and to switch them from shown to hidden with a keystroke. I pretty much save screensets for changes when the transport is stopped or for mixing after I'm done tracking where I can raise the sample buffer in my interface. Lots of people love screensets... for me, they are nice to have but not heavily used. When you say Edit View, I'm presuming Track View... but maybe you mean Piano Roll View? IDK. If you do mean PRV, you can instantly switch between PRV and Console as tabs in the Multi-Dock. You can also view PRV inline in track view and make edits there (although I rarely use this). To tell the truth, I don't know any one who has left Cakewalk because of the complaint you describe. There are things other DAWs offer that lure away Cakewalk Expert Users, but this aint it. Edit: I just noticed that you have been using Sonar for a while. I'm sorry if any of this is unhelpful. I hope I've understood the problem.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I agree. It's Screensets that you need to learn how to use. EDIT: This was a response to Post#2. The other posts were not visible to me until after I posted. Sorry for the confusion.

If all that is desired is switching between Track View and Console View, screensets are overkill. The normal template can be reduce to one audio track, the master bus, track view and console view. Then as mentioned above keyboard shortcuts "D" and "Shift+D" will toggle between the two views.

The 'D' key is probably the one feature that would make it impossible for me to work in SONAR pre-X at this point...

+1 on ALT+2 to bring up Console View. I use 'I' and 'B' all the time to hide/show the Inspector Pane and the Browser. Things may not be perfected yet, but a lot of thought did go into the UI and associated functionality overall for X3, so please give it a chance. I also concur that some of the tutorials and free videos would likely help out a lot, too. Bob Bone

I always have both a Track View and Console View window open, and then just use Ctrl-TAB to toggle between them.
