Vinyl bow how to...

I'm trying to test out Vinyl Boy; however, I'm having the same problem gustabo had in this post: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=1666501&mpage=1#2545095
However, I don't think the suggest solution still works in X1. Can anyone tell me the process to get this thing to work? Also, I don't have a mod wheel on my controller, is there a way to draw in the scratches?
