Hmm.  Can't tell much from the two lame audio demos on that page.  Two variations of the same metal riff... Not exactly showing off this thing's versatility...

There is a youtube video linked on that site somewhere that demo'd what it can do.  From what it showed, it looks pretty cool.  I wish they showed more in the video, though.  I'm keeping my eye on this...

I thought the same thing. Who knows? It mighth be cool. I'm always very skeptical of these guitar plug-ins though.

I should be more skeptical than I am.  I think I'm just eager to try something new.

Has anyone here used any Vir2 "instruments"? It appears they're all based upon the Kontakt 2 player.  For example, Vir bills the "VI.ONE" as "the complete [their emphasis] virtual instrument", but it's really just a sample player, right? (Not that there's anything wrong with that....)

I've considered their Acoustic Legends HD, and this Electi6ity looks promising because you have some serious control over the articulation. I just don't know anyone in these forums who's mentioned their products. I end up finding out about them through other Web sites.

Vir2 pops up in threads often. Mostly to ask if anyone knows how to make it work.

I checked out their site after returning from NAMM in January, feeling pretty jazzed about the product. They were promising demo songs "soon" back then, too. It's been 3 months since the announcement, and still no demos. You have to wonder why it's such a big deal to make a 30-second recording, especially if you are expert at using the software. Unless, of course, you are too busy furiously trying to get it to work.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

That's one of my concerns. I also checked out their forums...and there are no threads. In any forum. And they've been open for years.

Either no one's having trouble with their stuff...or no one's buying it.

Their forums appear to be locked.  No one can create an account or post.  I'm not sure why they did that.  They are a part of Big Fish Audio:

http://www.bigfishaudio.com/4DCGI/catalog.html?1;16;1::::::::Page=1;Bran=511972

It appears that most of Vir2's instruments use the Kontakt 2 Player, but Electri6ity uses the Konkakt 4 Player.  I'm still interested in the product even though their site is a bit strange.  When they release it and if I buy it, I'll be sure to report my experience back here.  "Spring 2010" could mean three months away yet...

EDIT:
A couple of their instruments uses Kontakt 3 Player:

Hmm...well, as I said, the product does look interesting. Hopefully they're spending time perfecting their products and not their Web site!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Hi everyone!

I found this thread via Google. I'm glad you are interested in Electri6ity!

[..]Hopefully they're spending time perfecting their products and not their Website!
[..]

One of the reasons there are no new demos online and the web site haven't been updated since NAMM is that a lot of
time has been spent on the fine tuning of Electri6ity. The release date (which will be very soon!) will be announced in the next few days.
And with this announcement a lot of new demos will go online.

Anyway, here are two demos which are unofficial yet...more coming soon (really!):

http://www.benjaminstelze...rFunkSoloDemoFinal.mp3
http://www.benjaminstelze...ndL4JazzyDemoFinal.mp3

Cheers,
Benjamin

PS: You can follow the development and progress of announced libraries on Vir2's twitter page:
http://twitter.com/vir2instruments. And in case you haven't heard of Vir2 yet, you'll find a lot of reviews
of Vir2 libraries on http://www.bigfishaudio.com (I'm sure those reviews will go online on Vir2.com in the future as well)

Benjamin,

Thanks for the info and the links.  Those two demos sound excellent!  I'm glad they're focusing on the tweaking of Electri6ity vs. updating their site .  I haven't pre-ordered yet, was still thinking about it... but now I'm more likely to.

Thanks for registering just to give us a heads up!

Hello everyone,
As promised I'm having some new - and at moment still inofficial - Electri6ity demos for you. Other than the old demos, those new ones are completely played and recorded live. Not a single keyswitch was used! Except for pitchwheel and modwheel, no MIDI-CCs were used either.
We tried to keep everything as raw as possible. Just like a guitarist who simply takes his guitar and starts improvising.

I hope you like them! Please keep in mind that these are guitar only demos, not a demonstration of some
guitars buried in a mix. I don't think that there is a more challenging way to demonstrate a
electric guitar sample library.

Cheers,
Benjamin

PS: The videos of the recording session will be online soon! Stay tuned and check http://www.twitter.com/vir2instruments or the Vir2 YouTube channel for updates!

Wow! I've completely changed mind. This thing sounds amazing. It is the first time that they've gotten the electric guitar right. I'm a guitarist so naturally I'm very skeptical of guitar modelling plug-ins, but I think I could be "fooled" pretty easily by this one.

Re:Vir2 Electri6ity 2010/05/29 00:18:48 (permalink)
I recently picked up two of Vir2's products: namely Acoustic Legends HD and Elite Orchestral Percussion (E.O.P).  I can't say I was genuinely impressed, but I was astounded at the selection and variety of instruments included in EOP.  I am still having difficulties getting a nice orchestral sound out of EOP; it seems that at higher velocities, the instruments get a "tinny" sound (as if a hi-pass filter is being used).

One of the things emphasized in the EOP advertisement is the sample engine.  This is the ability to automatically call up pre-configured loops within the Kontakt interface.  For example, you could turn on a 16th roll loop by pressing the keyswitch C0.  Frankly, I never found myself using these features as they took out the fun of making your own percussion part.  I imagine they would be useful when in a pinch for movie scoring.

Another feature is the reverb.  It's called EZroom, and it's included with all the patches.  It's your basic reverb, but the reason they say you should use it is because the tails are recorded from the same rooms as the samples.  Anyway, it's your choice in the end, and I found that Altiverb 6 sounded a lot more real than the EZroom.  Maybe it's because I'm more familiar with that interface...

Acoustic Legends HD is actually amazing for what it is.  Having used Realstrat Guitar, Podfarm, and others, I can say that this one beats them all.  The strumming requires a lot of fine-tuning (with velocities), but once you take the time, you can barely tell the difference from normal recordings and the sampled stuff.  My biggest gripe is the space it takes - almost 40GB!  On my 265GB drive, it's a huge chunk!

Przemyslaw Kopczyk did a very nice, dark and moody trailer demo for Electri6ity. All guitars (rhythm, clean and solo) were played and recorded live.
The rhythm and clean guitars are using the various strum keys in Electri6ity which make it very easy to do rhythm and strumming parts.
