Viral Facebook posts: "Write '1' in the comments to see something amazing happen"

I see one of these on my Facebook newsfeed at least once a day because some friend or other has responded to one. I just saw one now: 350,000 comments. 350,000! And virtually every single one was some utter moron writing "1" in the hope that something amazing really would happen. Of course it's just a scam that tacky Facebook pages use to get likes. But still, I'm constantly amazed at how many people really are that stupid. 300 years ago, that level of stupidity would see you dead in a ditch by the age of 20. It's a shame that the miracle of modern technology is artificially keeping these goons alive.

They post a picture with "leave '1' as a comment and see what happens!" or some BS like that. People actually think that Facebook has the ability to trigger an animation from a comment, and they post the 1. Complete morons. Just like the idiots who post all that "repost this at 7pm and say Alicia 5 times and stand up and turn around 3 times and the love of your life will call you at 10pm. THIS ACTUALLY WORKS" -- I have seen female friends in their 40's post this crap.

Maybe it's because I've been on MySpace for years before, and I've watched it becoming one of the worst place on the web but FB seems not much worst nor better than when I first joined 5 or 6 years ago.

That being said, people are lame, so the more people, the lamer the place. Fortunately, you don't have to add them to your newsfeed.

People are lame when you're a lamer
Facebook looks ugly when you're online
Myspace seems wicked when you're unfriended
Tweets are unsent when you're internet's down
