Viral Free Released - 170mb *free* Virus TI samples!

Viral Free is just a taste of what the Viral Outbreak series of samples is all about. Nucleus SoundLab gives these samples away, with the knowledge that after trying Viral Free, musicians will be infected with the desire to purchase the full Viral Outbreak set.

For those unfamiliar with the Viral Outbreak samples, these are premium-quality recordings of a Virus TI sampled at 24/96khz (downsampled to 24/48khz). Each sample was then hand-looped and processed.

Viral Free consists of:

  • 170+mb (32-bit format)of royalty-free samples.
  • 16 soundsets in Wusikstation, SFZ (Rapture and Dimension) and Kontakt formats.
  • $10 discount voucher for the full 2+gb and 820 presets of Viral Outbreak Volume One!
  • 24 Wusikstation presets included with more on the way!

Note that in order to accomodate a reasonable download size, the multisamples in Viral Free have been slightly scaled down. So rest assured the full set sounds even more alive and vibrant.

You can download these samples for free! In order to do so, head to the Viral Free product page! Those of you who have already signed up to the NSL freebie list should have already received your download links by email.

Hey Jeremy, did you include any of my Rapture presets for the full version in this free set? Might help people decide on how useful it'll be in their SFZ capable synths. :)

Also, I've got Dimension Pro presets coming for the full set too....maybe in a week or two (most likely two ), maybe a few of those could squeeze their way into the free set too when they're finished?

    Peace

    Frank,

No I didn't because there are only 16 samplesets included so I'm not sure which if any presets would work correctly. Maybe a few would work? I could look into it.

That would be great.. Maybe some could be very slightly edited if you can't find 16 presets that work properly?

That they are, Jeremy. Thank you. Now how do I say this without sounding picky or ungrateful? On the sample set built for Pulse_95.sfz, I think there's some unintended behavior, in that scattered samples play through as one-shots (instead of as wavetables). Notably, those would be pulse_ninefive_c0.wav, pulse_ninefive_c2.wav, pulse_ninefive_c3.wav, pulse_ninefive_e0.wav, and pulse_ninefive_g#1.wav. Since these are the ones greater than 3000 samples, I figured that they might have slipped through under the radar. (Although a portly ...g#0.wav is "behaving".)

These are very good sounds, and much appreciated. I'm not trying to break your balls, but I thought that you might want to hear what I'd found.

No, you're right bRock. I've just checked...this is actually in the full set too....any chance of a fix Jeremy? I'll check out the SFZ files in notepad tomorrow and see if I can spot any issues.

This particular .sfz seems to be correct. I was looking for the quick fix with forcing 'oscillator=on', or truncating the samples, but that (of course) pitches the samples up. FWIW: this is the only thing that I saw out of place in the Viral Free version.
Edit: Oh, and now ClassicWT30_c1.wav. I guess that I missed that one the first time through.

Hi b rock. I will investigate this right away. So you are saying these samples are unlooped? I can't imagine how that could have been missed but its a possibility. If thats indeed the case I will surely fix it.

edit: I've checked in Wavelab and the samples are looped perfectly. And testing the sets in sfz it appears things are ok. But in Dimension and Rapture some notes aren't looping properly. I haven't a clue why. Time to contact Rene I think.

If it helps any: All of the individual samples that play through as one-shots are quite a bit larger than 3000 samples. I see your loop points in SF8. Yet strangely enough, there's a couple of individual .wavs that loop perfectly at this larger size. The rest of the set are <3000 samples. The ones that' I've mentioned above were what I've seen, and the .sfz files themselves look like they're set up just fine. Thanks for looking into it.

To Jeremy: I've gone through the full version presets I made. There were only 5 that converted smoothly to use the Viral Free set. Shall I send them over?

    Peace

    Sure Frank, send them over.

b rock: I'll contact Rene about it and see if he can determine why they aren't looping.

Rene helped me find the problem. I will be fixing the files affected. For those curious its related to a looping bug in Wavelab...

Once I've got the fixed files up I'll post again.

Please do, Jeremy. That was an unfortunate turn of events with that looping bug, and these samples are a good fit for extended use in Rapture/Dimension Pro. This is a large free download: that's one of the advantages, but it also discourages repeated downloads to check back for corrections. Thanks.
