Virus TI and Sonar X1.
Just wanted to inform the TI users that the new OS 44105 works great with X1 thus far. On that note, does anyone have a .INS file of all the RAM/ROM factory banks by chance? I of course created a custom .INS to access all the banks via midi mode. (Ya I know you can use Virus Control and see all the banks, but there are allot of times I do not want VC active and I have my reasons due to hardware setups) A txt file with name names would work too (Cant pull the list from the PDF unfortunately) No current sounddiver and really its not an option.. thanks

If you use the actual Adobe pdf-reader, download and open the Access TI user manual and "save as text" (file menu Acrobat Reader) you do at least get the names in text format for copy and paste and don't have to type them. I don't know any better resource. IF you ever put an X1 .ins file together I would be interested as well. I often work with the TI Virus Control plugin, but sometimes would like to use the old fashioned midi/audio solution just like you.

Hey Scott - I'm *pretty* sure that I have an .ins for the TI at home. I'll check this evening, but if I do, it's probably a few years old and doesn't reflect the banks/patches that have been added with the last few updates. My TI2 is working perfectly so far with X1 as well, but I don't recall which OS I've got installed - how recently was 44105 released?

Hi Dave, Hmm I believe the OS was released on the 2nd or 4th of this month. I just got around to install it (being really careful with the updates on the TI. If I find something rock solid I tend not to take risks working with Sonar. 2 New filters, stomp boxes and some other goodies. Also Im nearly done with the TI ins now. Spent all morning on it. If you need lemme know. Best,

Good to hear. I've just installed it but not got round to trying my Ti in it yet (or even installing the latest OS update - maybe will have time tomorrow). In my experience it's always worked best in Sonar out of all my hosts.

Scott, Assume you mean OS 41105 (rather than 44105) - what system are you running it under? I can't get past the 'Starting Up' screen of Virus Control using 41105 (Win7, 64bit) and it's driving me mad. ... and I'm loathe even contemplate a downgrade of the OS. Let me know chap.

Hi TBR, Yup that is another reason I haven't made the jump to Windows 7 64 bit. I have 2 very important and expensive hardware devices (The Virus TI and my MOTU audio card) that have questionable windows 7 support, so like I explained in another thread, no jump for me anytime soon.

That said - seems I jumped the gun a little; I have some good news to report (!): Decided to test how the Virus would behave under the 32bit installation of X1 before returning to the XP side of my dual-boot. Dutifully installed X1 (32bit) alongside the 64bit version, attempted to launch VirusControl and lo (!) the Virus is happy(!). Very happy actually, timing seems tighter than before and no (god-awful) interference with delay compensation. Still a couple of tiny issues with the arp re-triggering but otherwise probably the best implementation I've seen in Sonar. I'm a happy bunny. Scott - I've been wrestling with the upgrade from XP/32bit to win7/64bit for almost the exact same reasons (VirusTI & MOTU Traveller in my case) - finally had to take the plunge as I needed more RAM (>4Gb) for which 32bit simply can't cater. (that and I rather shamefully have a Microsoft Qualification in Win7) I'd be happy to let you know how it goes/tell you when it's safe to jump ship ;) Cheers again, Dave [The Big Robot]

Scott Lee Just wanted to inform the TI users that the new OS 44105 works great with X1 thus far. How was it working with previous versions of SONAR? I'm considering getting a TI Snow but I had read (from using the Cakewalk search function) that the Access Virus' TI didn't totally integrate so well with SONAR? As a side note/question for those that have one, do you feel that the Virus line is still essential in this day and age or has it been rendered obsolete by the likes of Omnisphere (which I own) etc? I keep trying the Virus at my work and there is definately an attraction there but I can't tell if it's just surface level.

The Access TI is one of the most versatile hardware synths I've ever seen. It's one of my alltime favorites. Add several thousands user patches for free, many first class sounds among them for you to tweak away, starting there if you wish, and you have a real synth powerhouse covering many styles and genres. Many Effects, and Arps on board as well...

Interesting. I'm really in love with the whole line. One of the perks of my employment is that whenever it's quiet and I have nothing to do, I can play with pretty much all of them, though the Snow is the only one that sort of fits into my budget. Does anybody have any experience using it as a sound card? I'd really like to hear from SONAR users as to whether they've had any problems with it or not.

Hello alll Did see this thread today, sorry for late post... Well, I do also have the Virus TI Snow, a MOTU Ultralite MK3, running Sonar X1 on Windows 7 x64. The thing is that I can use the Virus, even though that Sonar don't include the Virus TI Snow (Automap).dll file or Virus TI Snow. dll in Plug-in manager - [Novation Automap Pro] However it do find Virus TI.dll. These three files are in my VST-plugin folder both 32 and 64 bit. I didn't know that Virus and Sonar was a bad match. I love both the Virus and the new Sonar X1, and I want to use them both.

It taking a little getting used to, especially with the Snow and all it's sub-menus, but I love the sound so much that I don't regret it one bit. Anyone who says that a softsynth like Omnisphere (for example) is as good as a Virus hasn't spent enough time with one. Don't get me wrong, I have Omnisphere and I find that the level of creativity that went into it is inspiring, but it's no Virus. The only thing I'd ever trade it for would be another Virus (like the desktop or POLAR). I just didn't have the money for that!

So are you saying that the Virus and Sonar are a bad match or the Virus and X1 are a bad match? Just asking 'cause so far the Virus and Sonar is working for me, but I don't have X1. Though I've been going back and forth over whether to get X1, poor integration between X1 and the Virus would be a deal breaker for me.

Nope they work great together. Make sure you turn off Delay compensation under the plug-in properties if you are using audio out 'vs' the USB audio routing. I have everything down to a snappy 1.5ms and syncing fantastic by reverting back to the 1/4 ich outputs. Otherwise you may experience slower playback and or timing to be slighty delayed due to delay compensation. Best,

Well works for me to. Expect some smaller issues with .dll stated above in the thread.
