hmm i wonder if it will fix the "prepare this blank disc" problem. its very annoying.

doesn't matter if its a commercial cd, dvd etc or burned cd, dvd. Its not an auto run problem, its not a dvd rom/drive problem.

    anyone else run into this?

    prepare this blank disc

I see it regularly. I have turned off several services including the indexing....wonder if that is contributing to the issue. I am still able to use the disks I just have to click through the bland disk and format message. Then I can get to the disks. I did not always do this though.

I can't burn any audio files.. as a matter of fact.. I can't burn anything on CDs. Only DVDs work. My ROM burner drive supports everything. After installing SP1, it seems to hate to work with CDs

The guy in the article said he had a cheesy fix.

    I wonder if he used:

    Munster
    Gouda
    Monterey Jack

i've had the 'prepare blank disc' problem here on my laptop since installing sp1 (which is not my DAW btw.)
i haven't really used the drive often enough to be bothered by it to the point of seeking out a fix though.

i have a feeling it cropped up after sp1 as well. its not an earth shattering problem but it is annoying as hell. my vista machine is not my main daw so i am constantly moving files back and forth and it makes installing things off discs a pain. i've searched around for work-arounds but none work. I thought it was my drive at first so i sent the drive back for a different one and still had the problem.

Yeah.. I thought my CDR was going bad, so I booted into Linux and it worked fine.. Then I booted Win XP and it worked fine too..

Imagine that.. Windows has bugs.. :)

    NOT READY FOR PRIME_TIME!

I downloaded and installed the 64x version but before I did I loaded a simple Sonar project with only two tracks that I use to baseline tests etc...

AFTER the SP2 install MAJOR CPU spikes, I'm talking red-line kinda cpu spikes on a simple two-track guitar project.

I WAS using UAD (which is a good idea when you baseline).

Restarted the com-pewter to make sure I did everything right...still amjor cpu spikes and sputters un-heard before.

    Stay away, it ain't ready.

I restored back to previous state and everything is fine...which is one thing to LOVE about Vista, its got system restore down to an actual working program...now if M$ would get off their collective arses and fix the search feature...

I'm using SOnar Platinium on a 6 core Lynx Audio machine and a ton of vintage pre-amps/eq's/comps I build for fun and sometimes money, REDD.47/API/Neve I also use the UAD stuff, and also use a Macbook Logic 9 through Apogee...

    Yep.

Also unzipping files in Vista is a pain in the ......
I bought Zero G Celtic loops and could not extract the files.
I can open them in Soundforge BUT Sonar doesn't see the files in the zipped folder.
Had to extract on the XP machine and put them on CDs and then drag the folders from that to the Vista D drive.

I actually find it easier to unzip files in Vista than in XP. It saves a few extra steps and has worked for me everytime.

They probably used a different compression format that's not recognized by Vista. In those cases I use WinRar (Free).

This works great on Vista64 and XP64, unrars, and adds a right click menu context. And it's free.
