Vocal Modification

For those out there without perfect vocals are their any rules of thumb for vocal correcting..and/or effects that are generally used on all vocals for improved quality?

I guess everyone can have an opinon on this; but I think that a lot of people are just too darned self-conscience about how their voice sounds. There are a lot of tools out there now that can do pitch correction, harmonies, gender shifting, etc... sheesh... I personally prefer a natural emotion filled performance over technical perfection. I think the primary thing is to choose a mic that flatters your vocal timber, a popper stopper, and maybe a little compression and a lot of rehersal before laying it down. (not to mention the old art of puncing in). We've got to somehow retain some endearing fallible humanity in this day and age of potential PC perfection.

eMOTION IS #1, JUST LISTEN TO A PERFECT CIRCLE..................................EVERYONE UNDOUBTLY IS VERY CONCIOUS OF THEIR OWN VOICE, ESPECIALLY THE FIRST TIME YOU HEAR IT RECORDED. SOMETIMES IF YOU LEAVE THAT RECORDING FOR A DAY OR 2 WITHOUT HEARING IT, IT WILL SOUND TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN LISTENING TO IT RIGHT AFTER RECORDING IT.......HEARING YOUR OWN VOICE ALSO LET'S YOU WORK ON WEAKNESSES YOU DIDN'T REALIZE WERE THERE UNTIL YOU LISTENED FROM OUTSIDE NOT INSIDE.....

EXPLAIN THAT YOUR MIND SHOULD ALWAYS BE FRESH AND NOT HAVING A PREMINITION OR EXPECTATION OF WHAT IT SHOULD SOUND LIKE,INSTEAD YOU'LL HEAR WHAT IT DOES SOUND LIKE(SORRY BOUT THE CAP LOCKS STUCK.
