Vocal Strip and Tempo Changes

OK. I've posted this before but it was quite a while back and rather than resurrect that thread I think I'll start a new one. Also, I have narrowed it down a lot. I first noticed this in 8.x (not sure if it goes back earlier). It also happened on my older machine running XP and dual-core processor.

 Currently:

 Windows 7 64-bit
 Sonar X1c 4GB RAM
 Asus M4N68T-M-V2
AMD Phenom II (can't remember exactly which; it's hexacore, plenty for what I'm doing)

Steps to recreate my problem:

Create an audio track and sing something on it.
Instate the VX64_VocalStrip and turn on the De-esser or the Doubler.
Draw a series of tempos that spans the audio you recorded.

Does anyone else get pops and crackles? I get them even on render/export (not just live playback). It happens on any project with tempo maps (whether it's a series of tempos drawn in or a tempo map rendered from audiosnap).

EDIT: Something is up with formatting.

EDIT 2: Forgot to put in my interface: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40. The same thing happened with my previous interface as well (PreSonus Firepod).

Turn off the PDC and see if the pops go away. I know that the timing will be off but I've got a hunch that the crackles will go away. I believe Cakewalk has issues with their delay compensation. It shows up mainly in their plug ins. My first guess would be the doubler.

Not sure where to shut off PDC. I looked at Preferences->Audio/Sync and Caching and unchecked "Use ASIO Reported Latency" and there was no difference. The crackles go away when I turn off De-esser and Doubler.

It's on the Control Bar.  Anyway, your problem is likely the Doubler which is possible a Tempo based pluging similer to the Sonitus Delay which has been a problem for a long time.  It can lose sync very easily.  Find a 3rd party doubler and de-esser.  I bet they won't cause a problem.

BTW, I can reproduce your bug.  I also tried the same recipe with the Sonitus Delay and set it to sync to host.  Guess what?  Pops and crackles.  Best advice is to not use anything that syncs up to a tempo and has Cakewalk on it.

Tried the same thing with two 3rd party plug ins that used a tempo sync and they did not manifest the problem.

Oh, the irony of ironies.  I just tried the Cakewalk Vocal strip in Reaper 4 with a series of free hand drawn tempo changes.  The problem doesn't manifest there so if you want to use the Cakewalk Vocal strip's De-esser and doubler with tempo changes, I recommend you use Reaper.

    HI,

Dave, this is bad news. Did you guys report these bugs? I hope they are corrected before the next update.

Van, I'm just cruious...if you enable stereo interleave do you still get the artifacts? I've noticed at times when running mono-interleave with a stereo plug in X1 (as soon as you turn on the delay or stereo stuff in the vocal plug, you're sending stereo signal) that I've gotten noises, artifacts and even pitched down weird snerts going on. As soon as I enabled stereo interleave on the track, all that stuff went away. Just give it a shot and see if it works. or not.

Mod Bod:  thanks for confirming my problem.  I'll try the Reaper thing, too.  Just to make sure yours is not a fluke.

rosefam6:  I have submitted this as a bug to Cakewalk.

Danny:  I'll give the stereo vs. mono interleave thing a try.

I reported this problem some month ago. Tried switching the interleave to Stereo and it did not solve the problem.
