Vocal tracks outside the house

I have recently moved into an apartment.  There is no way I am going to be able to lay vocal tracks without being kicked out.  Wondering how others deal with this???  reahearsal studios, etc.  I guess that I will have to lug my equipment wherever I go to record vocals.

OUCH....!  I guess you could save all the vocal tracks to the very end.....then treat the neighbors to "free" movie tickets... for a "night out" and record while they are out enjoying themselves...... if you think that might work. Cheaper than renting a studio for a few hours.

option 2: write instrumentals for a while

option 3: write songs with "low and sexy" lyrics.... think Barry White as opposed to say.... Ozzy.

Actually I have seen rehearsal studios (dont need the gear in there) for $20/hr.  Wondering if anyone has tried that.

That would be a usable option.... rehearse the vocal parts and I thin it would be possible to lay down 3 to 4 tracks in an hour. Pay the money and take them home and put the FX on them there.

Doing it that way... be prepared, lay the tracks and get the biggest bang for the bucks.

That would work for me if there was no other options. Walk in empty handed.....walk out with the tracks (waves) on a USB stick..... and $20bux lighter.

The only downside with a rehearsal studio (which is much cheaper than a recording studio) is that I have to lug my PC tower, keyboard, mouse, mixer, headphones, audio interface, mic and stand over.  Hope I dont blow an hour setting up!

Oh... I missed that.....you did say a rehearsal studio.....

You don't have a lappy and an external interface? That would make setup a breeze.

    Laptop, interface, mic.... record.

Man, everybody has a laptop these days....!

Ugh!  No money left for laptop.  Still bleeding cash from divorce legal fees and support payments.  Plus I just booked a vacation at Club Med Turks and Caicos hoping to get laid.

Santa wont be giving me a laptop this year.

Or - go talk to your new neighbours - ask them if they can actually hear you sing. Tell them you're a musician. I did that - found out that they couldn't even hear anything! I was being over-cautious. Plus, after i told them, they were genuinely interested in my hobby.

Check in with them every few weeks to see if they have any issues. Who knows, they may even find it comforting to hear.

    ...p.s

I originally took your post title to mean you were literally faced with having to record vocal tracks 'OUTSIDE the house'.

For the last year and a half, my mother-in-law has been living with us.  She's very sensitive to sound and has Stage 6 Alzheimers.  While I'm in the process of rebuilding my DAW, I'm considering using an older laptop as a temporary mobile DAW solely for the purpose of allowing me to record vocal tracks elsewhere.  Everything else I have is MIDI-based and I monitor on headphones.  Mixing is problematic, but I can work around the limitations.

In the past, I've been known to drive to a nearby park, sit in my vehicle, and record some vocals.  It's somewhat less than optimal and it looks pathetic insane weird.

Is there a closet in your apartment that doesn't adjoin a neighbors wall? I'd look into that option if there is. Just open the door and setup your mic stand between a little gap in the hanging clothes.

I like the checking with the neighbors to see if they can even hear you. Might even be a hottie that could save you a trip to the islands. Jus sayin.
