Vocaloid
Does anyone use vocaloid? I'm wondering if it would be a good way to give to vocalists so that they have an idea of what the song is supposed to sound like.

I was really interested in the New Vocaloid 4 as well as the CyberDiva sample voice pack, I have not bought them. If you go listen to a lot of vocaloid music on youtube it becomes rather - fan made cheapy vocals. I did not find that the samples and examples around the web were enough to make me purchase the pricey Vocaloid 4 app/plugin and then a pricey sample voice pack (rough estimate is $300). I think it would be cool or a good use as a backup voice or counter point to a main lead. but for long full length songs the sound of the robot/vocoder/cheap voice syth sound gets on my nerves and is taxing on the ears. I think as a tool to provide trained singers how a song should go might be detrimental. I could hear a vocalist say "you want me to sing like THAT?!".

Lol... While all of that is true, what is even worse is the effort involved to make a vocaloid "sing" actual words. It just isn't worth the trouble for the results that you get. You're better off humming... Dan

This is about as good as it gets (professionally done Vocaloid programming with a live band). I understand there is a version with an American accent now.

I know that this thread is a few months old, but I was curious to see what other people were doing with Vocaloid - especially Vocaloid 4, which I do not yet have. I find the whole idea very interesting really just from the technological standpoint. Although I am primarily an electronic musician, I would much prefer a real vocalist but I wanted to see what I could do with Vocaloid 3. I had used both Vocaloid 2 and Vocaloid 3 voices previously in songs only for background or harmonies but I wanted to see how it would work for lead vocals. It took some tweaking, but I just finished a music video for this new song, produced in Sonar Platinum, that I was originally going to post in the "Songs" forum. https://youtu.be/tcAtNg4AWsMhttps://youtu.be/tcAtNg4AWsM So far, I'm not too convinced that Vocaloid 4 is much better and worth the upgrade for me but I am interested to hear what others might have done with it. In any case, I am excited to see what future upgrades and advances to this technology will sound like.
