With MC and Sonar, just set up the recording and let it roll. Go read a book or do something else and it will simply set there and record.
Once they make the noise, and you are content with everything, stop the recording and go back and edit to wave.
It's easy to split the noise out into a new clip and delete the silence. In a few minutes you have the file you need for whatever purpose.
Voice activated requires some audio above a certain level to start it. You miss the beginning of the event. Editing allows you to have say 10 seconds before and after.
