Volume Envelope - Keyboard shortcut to create and edit via Track View?
In X1, is there a way to get a keyboard shortcut to create a (visible) volume envelope on a track in Track View? And is there a way to quickly switch between editing the Volume Envelope vs the Clip move? (In Sonar 8.5.3 and earlier, I just hit F3 to create a volume envelope and it was always editable at the same time as the clips). Thanks!

Not directly as such. You need to select the edit filter and then the envelope you want to work with. The envelope filter can be accessed from the track header but pressing 'T' or clicking with the middle mouse button to bring up the HUD with the edit filter in it is quicker. Once the envelope exists shift+left clicking on it will switch to it as will shift+left click on the clip to switch back. Shift + right click will switch between the last two edit filter states. It's a quick way of working once you get used to it. One of my videos covers that very subject.

But you can't edit the envelope and the clip at the same time. You have to change the edit focus. This was implemented in X1 at the request of hordes of users who were fed up with clips moving when they trying to edit envelopes.

Thanks for the tips. The shift-clicking will help. Anything is better than mousing through menus during playback!

Shift-left-click is still not always easy, if the tracks are narrow. I find myself spending a lot of time trying to go back and forth between editing envelopes and editing clips. I never had these clip/envelope frustrations in 8.5.3 and earlier. Shift-right-click helps, though. However, when I first load a project, I need to shift-left-click to toggle first, so that shift-right-click has something to toggle between. This is a little annoying, since I tend to edit projects over the course of many days. Also, the shift-clicking doesn't help in terms of *creating* the volume envelopes, which I bound to a single keypress [F3] in 8.5.3 and earlier. Are there other ways to quickly create volume envelopes and/or toggle between volume envelopes and clip editing? A global change would be more convenient than something that only affects one track at a time. Right now, I find the clip/envelope toggling to be the most frustrating thing about X1.

A global change would be more convenient than something that only affects one track at a time. Middle mouse button brings up the HUD where you can access the edit filter and insert an envelope. It's a middle mouse click instead of a right click. Perhaps that'll help.

You can use the Quick Groups feature to change multiple track parameters at once and this includes the Edit Filter control. So, for example, to add a volume envelope to all tracks (or a group of selected tracks), hold down the CTRL key while using the Edit Filter to add an automation envelope for volume. This will add a volume envelope to all the tracks. Scott -- Scott R.
