Ah yes. When I visited the Lewiston/Auburn area of Maine a number of years ago, I got a real bang out of the fact that it was referred to locally as "LA". Los Angeles has nothing on Maine!
We also have a desert in Maine. It's called "The desert Of Maine." It's an actual desert, caused by poor land management. Dunes are like 60 feet high, burying houses completely. A great place to bring visitors (or those "from away" - which includes me, since I was born in Chicago, and have only been here 27 years).
