Voxengo voxformer

Wow, I just used it last night and love the "In your face vocal" setting. Tweaked it just a little bit and made the vocal jump out above the mix just the right amount. I had a vocal track with 4 effects on it to get the sound I want, and replaced all of them with one instance of Voxformer. I love it. Anyone else use this, and how do you use it on female vocals?

    i use it but not on female vocals yet. it truly is a wonderful plugin, and one of the best for vocals!

    Hi DigiBiu and Attalus,

    I love voxformer as well and have only used it so far for female vocals. I use the "female vocals" preset and tweak from there. The presence gain is useful when its an aggressive overall mix.

    I'm not saying much that you couldn't guess, but I hope it's of some use!

    Voxformer CAN come in handy if you have not enough time to manually:

    - Gate by automation movements, instead of using a gate
    - De-ess with using clip gains, instead of using the de-esser
    - Adjust levels of the "singer" by automation, instead of using any compressor

    Anyways, for an over-all plugin for vocals it is remarkably well made and if I can't find the time to fix the above mentioned "problems" in a take, it is the plug to reach for.

    I feel a little uncertain about the in your face-setting though, because when I got the plug and played arounf with the presets I found that one WAY too destructive for a whole mix.

    Why? Because if you have a "normally recorded" vocal track that setting will surely gravitate the vocals towards very nasty ranges. To make the mix fit with the vocals the mix will tend to gravitate towards nasty ranges as you tweak.

    This is a common problem if you're using low resolution listening chains - that you might end up with the energybase above 800-1000 Hz.

    So, be careful, listen closely and don't forget to mute the signal very often to let your ears rest.

    Bottomline is - I am no preset guy.
