Vs-700r with Studio capture

I think I have bought myself a lame duck!  :-)
I bought a Studio Capture for a good price thinking it would interface with my VS-700R.
Anyone have any good ideas how to utilize this?  :-)

I would use it as an alternative to the VS-700R, which is too noisy anyway ... basically whenever you don't need the Fantom or ADAT in/out, the StudioCapture should have an advantage (same preamps, but much advanced direct monitoring during tracking) ... I use the Octa-Capture to provide different mixes for musicians plus a basic reverb for tracking and it works really well ...

Nevertheless - it is an INCREDIBLE SHAME that Roland never bothered to make it compatible with VS EXPAND which they were pushing for years ...

    Thanks for the reply.
I dont use the Fantom synth at all these days.
So do you put the console in solo mode??
I should have done my research a little better as I thought it was compatible with VS Expand :-)

I think most people use the VS-700C directly connected to the USB anyway ... you probably have to switch a dip switch or something and install the VS-700C driver (pls check the docu as I still use it via the VS-700R) but the combination of the StudioCapture as audio interface plus the VS-700C as the CS should be simple and solid one (and going back should be like changing 2 cables plus a switch) ...

Do you mean VS-700R is too noisy or studio capture?

H means the fan noise from the vs 700r

Yes, exactly. "noisy" refers to the fan inside the vs700R which is definitely too loud ... not to be confused with preamp quality, which is good :-)

I have a simple and probably very stupid hook up question but it's just not in the manual anywhere that I can find.
I have an external midi keyboard and all I friggin want to do is set it up so that it triggers the soft synths.  Anyone care to give me a rundown on what I might be missing?
I ran the midi out to the midi in of the V-700R and can see the trigger events but how do I rout it so it triggers the synth on the program?

Insert the synth and route your MIDI Track OUT to the inserted synth ... create an audio track where you route the synths output to the audio track IN ...

Best do it the opposite way: insert a synth and check insert synth options "MIDI Source" and "First Synth Audio Output", now select VS-700 MIDI IN in the newly created MIDI track, the rest of the routing should be done ...

Now ensure you have a preset in the synth selected and input monitoring enabled ...
