Vsti and ProChannel

Hello, hopefully this is not a too beginner question... But when I insert a vsti, for example NI Kontakt, into an audio track the ProChannel does not work. It works fine with audio files but it would be great to apply the Pro Channel FX on the vsti directly. If it is not possible, I have to freeze it first, right? Thank you very much for your help! Andreas. PS. I use sonar professional.

Pro Channel is only going to work on an audio track. Kontakt is a soft synth sample player with audio outputs to audio tracks use the audio track's PC to work with Pro Channel.

I believe you can insert the VSTi as an "Instrument Track" and then the prochannel will work on it.

Just insert the vsti as an instrument. PC will work fine on it. Don't forget to turn on the pc button at the top of the pro channel rack.

That's it! :-) If I drag the synth from the browser on the right, it works! I was always adding the vsti into an audio track. That doesn't work. But so it's even easier. Thank you all for your help!

That is only useful for single output synths such as Dim Pro. For multiple output synths simple instruments tracks should not be used.

Andreas, one thing to note is that on an instrument track.  There are two tabs in the inspector.  One is for MIDI and one is for Audio.  If you find yourself scratching your head about trying to edit something on an instrument track, make sure you have the correct tab selected first.  This caused me quite a bit of confusion the first few times.

Inserting the vsti as an instrument track works, but only midi omni then. I was using Sonar 8 for years and what I did was adding an audio track, then adding a vsti (Kontakt for example) into this track and in the same track one or more effects. So, every midi channel from Kontakt was affected by the effect. Now I thought it would be great to do the same with the PC FX because they are very cool. I am sure I misunderstand something... But what?

First off use the synth rack for synths.  Set the synth to use all audio outs. This will create a bunch of audio tracks all with their inputs set to the synth in this case of Kontakt, Each audio track can then go to a buss. That buss can use Pro Channel. MIDI tracks can then be added as needed to use Kontakt.
