***WARNING*** Cakewalk will move criticism of X1 to Coffee House

I posted in the X1 forum a list of things in Sonar X1 which were (in my opinion) handled better in Sonar 8.5.3. I stated that some of the X1 changes were frustrating enough for me to revert to 8.5.3.

My post was not (in my opinion) inflammatory or off-topic. However, because it did clearly communicate my frustration with X1, it had the potential of deterring people from upgrading to X1.

In an apparent effort to prevent my post from affecting sales, Cakewalk moved my post from the Sonar X1 forum to the Coffee House. Since users looking for X1 pros and cons are unlikely to visit the Coffee House, Cakewalk effectively "silenced" my post.

Was this act of censorship warranted? You be the judge: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=2383678

Just keep in mind that this forum belongs to Cakewalk, and they have the right to do whatever they want on here in order to protect sales. They just need to keep in mind that it forum users can be very judgmental when it comes to censorship.

p.s. I find it interesting that Cakewalk is investing time censoring posts on the forum when the forum software itself is in desperate need of an update so that it works in Firefox 6! Cakewalk's priorities these days definitely seem to be aligned with getting short-term sales rather than keeping long-time users happy.

p.p.s. Let's see if they censor this post as well.

My thought is that Cakewalk as a company provides and pays for this fourm.  I can understand why they wouldn't post bashing—and, in fact, I think it is noble that they put it in the public coffee house.  (I'm not saying you were bashing; I'm just laying out the principle.)

If your question is where to draw the line between comparing features (positively or negatively) of the current release with past releases v. outright criticism of the product, I understand that is a judgment call.  We may not always agree with where Cakewalk draws the line, but it is their call.

I don't want to make you mad and I completely understand your frustration, but I think they are within their rights.  Censorship really applies to governmental intervention—not to companies choosing what they pay to publish.  I have run websites before and I did not publish all comments.

    Sorry, bro.

    My two cents...

First, I didn't read all of your post...I will go back and do so...but my first impression is that the several HATEs in caps is what got this post moved.

I don't think there's a very sound basis for making the presumption. If that were the primary motive, there would be dozens of threads being moved every day.
I'd wager it was moved not because of the content of your opening post, but because of the inanity and irrelevance of most of the responses.

Having participated in the thread - and I probably helped move it (sorry 'bout that) I don't think it was the criticism, it was the the way it moved to a discussion about happy campers versus unhappy campers and would have ended up another b***h fest.
Cakewalk has always handled (IMO) complaints with patience.

EDIT:  Wow!  That got moved while I was typing!

I'd wager it was moved not because of the content of your opening post, but because of the inanity and irrelevance of most of the responses.
So why was this "warning" topic moved to Coffee House as well? The responses have been on-topic, right? Cakewalk moved it before it had a chance to devolve into irrelevant chatter and/or flaming.

I really do think they move topics which could hurt sales. Why else would Cakewalk pay someone to moderate forums? It's definitely their right (and shareholders might say responsibility) to protect sales by moderating "unfavorable" forum content.

I just find it interesting that they are so FAST at moderating and so SLOW at fixing the Firefox 6 bug. This, to me, supports the notion that the recession has put greater financial pressure on Cakewalk than we're used to seeing.

He did the same thing I did, he fell for all the fanboi's lies and didn't feel the need to wait for the demo and jumped on the $99 deal. Which by the way, if I remember correctly, was touted as a limited time offer to nudge you in to buying it faster. Get it now, no guarantee the $99 offer will stand ... better hurry. Oh Demo? ... well, there is no demo, so you better hurry or you won't get the $99 deal.

I jumped for the "mo mem" and 64 bit because I had computer dealings going on at that time.
I'm not sure about all the issues but I guess having a new 64 bit clean machine sure helped- other than the bugs- which seemed mostly related to stuff I didn't use...which is not a very meaningful statement because I have used it little and limited function then.

I hope it can handle what I'll do when I get back to doing it.
