WAVES Installation! - Where does everything need to be to use the VST3 Versions? [SOLVED]

Hi All

I have just jumped on the Waves Gold Bundle deal but I am getting in a bit of a pickle trying to install it!

I have managed to get the plugins to show up in SONAR X3e Producer but I am not 100% convinced they are the right (VST3) ones - is there a way to check??

Here is where everything currently is:

I have copied the WAVES "Plug-Ins V9" folder to here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

This folder seems to contain all of the plugins and a WIN32 and WIN64 file

I can't see what version these plugins are (VST2, VST3,???)

The "WaveShell-VST 9.3_x64.dll" file is here:  C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

I think it is this DLL file that SONAR is locating (?)

This file (WaveShell-VST3 9.3_x64.vst3) was also in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

I think SONAR is finding the "WaveShell-VST 9.3_x64.dll" file in the VST3 folder and using the PlugIns in the "Plug-Ins V9" folder that is in the VST3 folder but I have no idea if I am using the VST3 version of the plugins!?!?!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

In your Browser for Sonar (shortcut 'B') there is a folder which the installation makes separately for VST3 plugs-VST2 plugs-Direct X plugs.
Also when launched, the VST3 GUI is sizable. Hover your mouse to the edge of the Window and you will be able to use the pointer to increase/decrease the entire display. With VST2, the Window cannot adjust (leaves a blank on the edges)

Ignoring the plug-in layout for a moment, the option drop down in the plug-in header provides a good clue to the format, it will either be labeled VST2 or VST3. Dx plug-ins do not have an option drop down.

Thanks Guys

I have now managed to check and it is loading the VST2 plugins and not the VST3 plugins

Any ideas how I can get the VST3 plugins to load?

OK, I think I have sussed it so I have marked this thread solved

I will post where I have everything as the WAVES installer seems to put everything in the wrong place and with the recent offer I am sure others will come unstuck

To get the VST3 versions working this is where you need to put everything:

Find where the WAVES installer has put the plugins - in my case i was: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves"

In this folder is a folder called: "Plug-Ins V9"

You need to put a copy of this whole folder here: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3"

In this folder you need to have the file: "WaveShell-VST3 9.3_x64.vst3"

If you don't have this file in your VST3 folder you can get it from the original WAVES install folder - which in my case was: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves"

In the "Waves" folder is a folder called "Waveshells" and in here you will find the file "WaveShell-VST3 9.3_x64.vst3", which you can copy and put in the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3" folder

et voila!

Phew! - a bit of trial and error and some pointers from SIMPLEMANZ and SCOOK but I got there

I hope this helps someone else as I read about lots of problems and people were uninstalling, deleting registry items etc.

But I think moving a few folders and files around should save you from a bad WAVES installer

I hate the Waves Installers and any installer similar to it.  One time it removed certain plugins while trying to add some. I like installers that ask "where would you like me to put this?"

i just add the waves folders to my list of VST directories (i have about 10 or so directories) to scan and simply leave the waves vst dll in the main vst folder and it seems to pick up everything reliably.
