WKRP is backwith Original Music

I really hope this is true!!!

Just saw this (http://www.shoutfactory.com/product/wkrp-cincinnati-complete-series?gclid=CKS4_MK8kMACFSyCMgodkScAaw) over at Shout Factory. According to the ad, they are releasing all four seasons with the original music instead of the 'junk' they used in earlier releases. The caveat is this little line, "we are doing our best to include every scene uncut and to license as much original music as possible." Who knows what that means? They could be licensing one song to every song in the entire series.

I think I'll wait a bit and see what the reviews look like

No, but I do remember that skit!  I love when he goes into the Hindenburg broadcast mode.

I was of age when this show was on the air, but it was during a period of my life where TV watching was somewhat scarce. I recall seeing a few episodes, and of course couldn't take my eyes off Loni Anderson. But what did they do to the music?

    Broken pencils are pointless.

Let's see if I can remember it correctly.

They used so much of the then current music in the background when the station was on the air.  When the first DVDs came out, it go so expensive to license it that they hired musicians to play some generic stuff that kind of sounded like the original music.  It just wasn't the same as when the sow was first broadcast.

    Got it. Thanks.

Kind of the like the Andy Griffith Show DVD I once bought that did not have the opening 'whistling' theme, that I assume was replaced because of licensing issues.

That's interesting.  I never heard about that.  I thought it was original to the show, so that licensing wouldn't be a problem--like Hendrix, or The Who might have been on WKRP.

Music licensing is a problem with a number of old shows - they had no way of knowing in the 90s that this would be an issue fifteen years later.  Take American Dreams, number one on my list of shows I'd like to see reissued on DVD.  That show was brilliant, and especially dear to those of us old enough to remember the old Dick Clark show (although American Bandstand was mostly a load of crap itself).  American Dreams ended after three seasons with a totally disappointing conclusion, but it was a treasure nevertheless.

This is great news indeed. That was one of the best-written sitcoms of all time. Haven't seen it in decades, but I still remember some of the gags.

The classic turkey episode was a high point in low-brow humor, right up there with the SNL cowbell sketch.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
