WOW - A USEFUL FREE RTA PLUGIN

found this plugin for a newbie on gearslutz- he needed to learn how to recoknize different freq's

http://www.vertexdsp.com/products_multiinspectorfree.html

it just hit me this rta will monitor several tracks at a time in layers, using different shaded bands for each track overlaid on the same display screen. WHAT AN AWESOME WAY TO SEE WHERE INSTRUMENTS ARE OVERLAPPING TOO MUCH AND CLOGGING UP THE MIX
gotta go wanna test drive it NOW

let posts some reviews???
(and no I don't work for the plug in company)

For those using Analyst included with the newer versions of Sonar, can not Analyst do all this and more?

No cause it can only handle one track at a time. With this plugin you can monitor up to 4 tracks in one view which is pretty cool for mixing.

Analyst shows a single track. The one listed here can show multiple tracks on 1 display which can be useful for comparing frequency spectrum overlap and what levels each track is playing at a specific frequency or range. BlueCat has a free/demo VST that is similar. Both groups have a full version that has a lot more control if you're willing to pay for it.

Also, try Voxengo's Glissando EQ, which does something similar.

The pro version supports other rates. This plug in looks cool. A lot like one I've been dreaming about coding up. I guess it _was_ a good idea.

Tried it, as well as GlissEQ and Elevayta SpaceBoy. Guess it is better to use ears I mean, those graphs won't help much really, or maybe I just don't get it..

The wise man uses all the tools available. Visualization is very useful. Paritcularly if you don't have a perfect mixing environment, it can tell you things that your ears cannot because your ears aren't hearing exactly what's coming out of the speakers.

The reason I posted this plugin as useful (notwithstanding the 41k limitation) is that many times in a mix we need to, as you know NOT have 2 instruments fighting for the same space (Boy if Newton could hear me now). Classic example is kik brum and bass, you want to give them both a boost at non concurrent frequency, sometimes you can benefit from a visual, seeing that you have a nice notch carved in one for the other to peek out in. Same thing to a lesser degree with the bottom end of guitars versus vox or kys. I get confused sometimes identifying exactly where things are getting "clogged up", and I think I'll use this for a while helping me get faster at identifying the freqs. Sonar analyser is great but if you line up 4 instances of it, it blocks my view even with 2-22" monitors.....
I tend to think my curve on sonitus eq is actually what I'm hearing and it's fully only relative to the waveform you're working with/ Boost a flute 15 db (not that you should) and the eq curve in sonitus looks like whoops! there go my woofers! but in reality theres not much bass coming out of the flute playback audio, because there was nothing there to begin with. Point is I need meters sometimes.

Sorry, I did not mean to sound as ignorant as I did.. it is just that mixing with eyes instead of ears has frustrated me sometimes. The human ear is superb analyzer compared to RTA plot. Bot the plot can help, so thanks for the link, too.

Voxengo's SPAN does the same thing, is free, and takes up as close to zero CPU as you can get. I run one on every track and buss so I can tell what's happening in the EQ all the way to the mix. Very helpful.

I went to download it thinking that it was free.... I saw a 60 minute restriction and a price of 129.00. Is that same plug everyone is refering too ?

Did you download the commercial version (MultiInspector) or the freebie (MultiInspectorFree)?

That's cause you didn't download the free version (MultiInspector Free) but the retail version (MultiInspector). The correct one is the third one from top to bottom on this page: http://www.vertexdsp.com/downloads.html
