Thanks for the link. Made me dig out my original Crybaby I bought back around 67-68. These things were built really durable, except for the potentiometer. I have to clean it and try it again. Hopefully it doesn't crackle too much. This was a very common problem throughout my ownership. I have been using a Vox wah-wah the last few years which has an external power connection. Lot of good features were noted in the movie regarding some of the newer versions, like on/off LED indicator lights.

Clapton got his first wah-wah pedal while Cream was recording Disraeli Gears: White Room. He has said that it was new and he overdid it on the song... but I think it went quite well. J

White Room was on (the later) Wheels of Fire LP. So it must have been Tales Of Brave Ulysses You may be right I am working from an old memory... but I am pretty sure that White Room was recorded during the DG sessions but rejected for Disraeli Gears by the record company and then put on WOF. What I remember is not so much WR being first but a Clapton comment about not knowing how to use the wah and just going up and down the whole time, but it could have been Tales he was talking about... actually it was probably both songs, the wah was brand new and he was using it to the max on both songs. This is a cool shrt Clapton interview about the wah pedal... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvBlICAzxJw&NR=1 Thanks! J

Actually you might be right since I didn't know (or forgot) about White Room being recorded in earlier session. And I do kinda remember the interview you mentioned where he talked about the wah in White Room just going up and down continually. But EC has always had a way of taking something brilliant that he did and making out like it's somewheres between complete rubbish and no big deal.

Like they always say, "tone is in the fingers" but in some people I guess tone is in the foot too, laff. Humility always wears well, especially on someone like EC. I may get out my VOX wah and make some noise! J

Brought back memories. My very first pedal was a wah, namely an old Schaller Bow-Wow Yoy-Yoy. Can't remember where it ended, but that thing used to eat a 9V battery in less time than it takes to spell it's name. If I remember correctly, my last pedal was also a wah (Dunlop) which I gave to a fan/friend. And that documentary made me feel like going out and buying a new one.

I dug out my old Crybaby and recalled why I replaced it many years later with a more recent Vox Wah-Wah. Most important reason was it does need a new potentiomter as the old one is excessively scratchy. Second reason is basically the better features of the newer units. Most important of them to me is the external power source, instead of battery only. I hated having to unplug the guitar cable when not using to save the battery life. The only thing missing on my Vox is the LED on/off light. That would be nice but I can do without. But the Crybaby has held up. It was a really cool (swell) device when it came out.

I still have my old"Thomas Organ" Crybaby I bought new in the late 1970's (with the original owner's manual) and it still works fine.
