First impressions

Sound quality 10 even 11 out of 10, it's everthing I hoped for and more...the pianos have blown me away even exceeding EWQL piano...BOOM!

Feel, keybed is light and easy to play fast, I like the more angular edges to the keys compared to other synths I have tried.

Build quality, this is worrying me , it's mainly the case and the way that the section under the keys moves and rubs against the end cheeks.
There's a slight rattling sound if I hold down with the left hand and play rapid notes with the right.

I don't think it is going to break but the rattling is offputting slightly, have to think about this one.

Well, I've decided that I can't put up with the build quality so I am returning it.

As well as panels that rub against each other and create a white dust where they meet, the rotating selector feels like a toy plus the keys rattle A LOT.

I am very disappointed, the actual sound is amazing but for £2600 I expect quality of build too!

I was hoping the Kronos would be similar quality to the Triton I used to own.

Certainly I'll now look at Yamaha and Roland, in fact I'll be looking at everything from a controller keyboard upwards.

The main reason I got the Kronos was for the sound quality and the Karma features...I don't think I will be spending as much for something that doesn't have those features so I'll probably look around the £500-£1500 range.

I would go used ..not sure what Fantom G6 or Motif XS prices are in the UK used.

For the best of them as a master keyboard, its the Fantom G. I have yet to find anything that is as easy to setup splits & layers, and most importantly, turn on and off zones quickly. The live set view on that big screen is an art in simple and legible UI, and the pads can be used to turn on/off the 16 external channels. The keybed is very very nice. When i am dicking about making inspiration music with the hardware synths (VIrus, Nova, uQ etc) its all being run from the Fantom

If you want the thousands of arpy type things then the Motif now has Karma, but it is a bit more fiddly UI (perhaps still simpler than the Kronos would be?). Given that the S6 piano they added for the XF is horrid, I would go for the motif XS to save money..unless you expect to gig with it in which case the flash makes it worthwhile.

Soundwise they are apples and pears.. Motif has more natural acoustic sounds strings, sax, piano, but pads, vox, synth bass & lead its the Fantom that has the edge.

Must say though, if Karma was a big attraction then i would go for a used Motif XS/XF

Wow, that does suck!  Does this unit happen to come in a rack-mount?  Maybe then you can get the sounds you like and just control them from another keyboard (real or MIDI).

No rackmount Kronos as yet.

Latest update is that it looks like the unit has been taken apart and put back together badly.

Waiting with interest to see what my supplier says, the unit is not even a UK unit which means Korg UK have rightly pointed me back to the supplier,it is a European model and came with a 2 pin plug lead (as well as a 3 pin plug that had been put inside a bag in the box).
