Wal Martians...

Every time we drop by at Wal Mart to buy kitty litter and a few things, I try to grab one or two CDs to rebuild my music library.

My pick of the week was:

I was wondering why the cashier seemed so totally absorbed when she saw it - turning it around and back again, examining it. Then she looked up at me and asked:

Are they the ones who sang In a Gadda da Vida?

I gave one point for the effort - good to know that she was at least aware that a band called Iron Something had a song called In a Gadda da Vida. My own mom and dad wouldn't have known that...

Gee, you could have answered "No, but I know a guy who played with the son of the guy who wrote that song."

But, no, you probably didn't...

*Sigh!*

You played with one of the Iron Caterpillars? I didn't know that!!!

We also know a guy who plays with the son of the drummer on Piece of Mind, a guy who gets poked a lot because of certain studio pics he posted a while back I've heard.

It was a bit after that when they were the Iron Cocoons.

(Doug Ingle was our drummer briefly.  Son of "the" Doug Ingle who wrote In A Lady Gaga Da Vida.  I went to school with him for both Junior High - AKA "Middle School" and High School.  He left soon after to play keyboards like his dad.  I don't blame him though, he was the only drummer we had that didn't die while in the band!  Talk about Spinal Tap moments...  )

First concert I went to...think I was 13, maybe 14- it was '68/69 (can't remember)
and I was amazed. A 17 year old guitarist, Erik Brann and a band showing me how it could be done.
I was never the same after that.

I like getting my CD's from Amazon. I can listen anywhere from the Cloud Player immediately after purchase.
Here's a few from the last few weeks...not all but enough to see that IM wasn't one.

I like the gold limited numered editions when available

Liked Flying Colors so much I had to see....

And if you haven't really listened to this...oh well...

It's a good feeling having Cd's of ones work. I have a few but I don't even try to sell them (as if they would) because I think they may be so unique they'll be worth something someday....I can say if they don't increase in value at least they didn't lose any.

Some pretty interesting stuff, Spacey. :)

I do order from Amazon once in a while but never really bothered with Auto Rip - since I'm on Mac, it's easier to use iTunes for everything and I like to rip my CDs in wav format, anyway.

Since everything has been left behind when we left Canada, I'm slowly re-building my library and most of the time, I simply grab things I like that are on sale. There's always one or two of them. Most of the time, they're albums I used to own, quite often I already have them in iTunes/MP3 format - like the Iron Maiden record above.

Iron Maiden is one of those bands that I didn't care for back in the day, but have a greater respect for today. Maybe it's just in contrast with current garbage. Even 80's disco doesn't make me cringe anymore. Much.

It's opened a whole new vista of "new" (to me) 80's music, mostly discovered in bargain-bins and Amazon's used-CD selections. I get most of my tips from the entertaining Rock 'n Roll Geek Show podcast, hosted by a personable bass player who still lives in the 80's and reveres his big-hair heroes of that era.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
