Walkin' Blues. Don't know if it's because I said I was feeling old...

Woke up this morning , I looked 'round for my shoes...


Nah, I woke up this morning, made some coffee, grabbed the laptop and headed out on the balcony as usual. All fine.

I was just sitting there reading the forums when I felt this pinching pain in my hip joint - something I hadn't felt in years. 

I tried to stand up - man it took me almost 30 seconds to get out of my chair and up on my feet. Just lifting my feet to step inside requested quite an effort. Then, it took me forever to drag myself across the living room and into my studio, one step at a time.

Almost feel like the joint is out of its socket or something. This used to happen quite often when I was in my early 20s. Coincidence? I ran out of glucosamine last week and figured I could wait until we ran errands the next time. Which we did yesterday but I neglected to take it before this morning.

I'm expecting it to pop back into its place like it always does - which usually results in my leg failing for a fraction of a second - and that fraction of a second is actually very painful - and me collapsing on the floor - which for some reason is hilarious. I always end up bursting into laughter. Same thing when I broke a toe - I ended up face first on the floor and could stop laughing, though it was quite painful.

So I'm walking around, enjoying a preview of what it will most likely feel like when I get old. Trying to sit isn't any easier and takes quite a bit of precaution. It's actually very painful but there's something which amuses me and I can't help but laugh seeing myself having to drag myself around - most likely because I know (well, I hope) that this isn't permanent.

I'm sure my wife won't find it half as funny when she wakes up. She will most certainly verbally kick my neglectful butt - "why do you always refuse to go to the hospital, why won't you see a doctor?" etc... Man, I love that woman! :)

You got that right! I've had some pain in my right shoulder for a few months now. 3 weeks ago while trying to shove an empty box up on the rafters in my garage, I experienced pain like I haven't felt before. There were fireworks inside my clenched eyelids, and very bad words spewed forth into the entire area. Went to see the Dr. a few days later and she says I likely have bursitis or tendonitis or both. I've been going to a sadistic lesbian physical therapist twice a week now and will continue til after the 1st of the year. Yesterday morning at my appt, she did this lovely ultrasound heat treatment, then a warming gel massage, and then a heat wrap for 20 minutes. Then she says for me to lay on the table and lets really get it stretched out. One minute into this and I'm looking at her through tear filled eyes and wondering "can I take this broad out one handed?". Randy

Yup...I've got a pain in my right shoulder that's quite the jokester...I can lift or haul something, reach up and put something on a high shelf...but just let me reach for a cup of coffee the wrong way and I'm down on my knees in agony.  Good times.

I've always had problem w/ my joints - I used to run away from school to go to the hospital because I couldn't bear the pain. 

In fact, one of my very first memories is the smell of Absorbine Jr - that little bottle which looked like a bingo marker... I kept that bottle beside the bed when I was as young as 4 or 5, and constantly rubbed my knees to try to get rid of the pain.
I can't remember a day in my life where my legs weren't painful. But you just get so used to it.


Eventually, I guess this affects your posture and the problems start traveling because you compensate by putting the balance somewhere else - hip, lower back, shoulder.

I started taking glucosamine in my 30's. The pain didn't go but, it wasn't until I decided to go w/o it for a while that I noticed how much it helped. 

As soon as I get back on it, the joints still hurt, but, it's like background noise or something. You can tune it out.

Good thing you married a small lady then!
 
(I seem to recall a picture of you carrying her over your shoulder - heh...)
