Man, I remember seeing Aerosmith do this one when they were just a warm up band. You guys did such a great version. Great playing and a really fine mix ... Danny, I especially dug your leads and the organ is just plain perfect as are the horns. Going back for seconds ....

Thanks Tap. :) You know it's funny, I've never even heard the original until Phil pointed me in the right direction. As a matter of fact, I hadn't even heard of the Aerosmith version! Being into mostly 80's guitar stuff, this was the only version I ever knew. LOL! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vImfWd4sykI&feature=related

Indeed awesome guitar work Danny and love those instruments as well. .Really great job on bass and the remix is much better to my ears, great job Bapu, I can't get over how far your productions have come. Great job on the vocals, Phil, and I'm assuming you did the opening Clav? Really impressed with the drum track Mooch's friend did as well. I never heard the song before and thought this was one of Phil's, I can't imagine anyone ever doing it better... real magic here.

Sounded great. Everything about it. Especially the guitar. Wish I could play that fast. Matter of taste here, but during the chorus I thought some fills would fit nicely there (when the singer is not singing). It's early morning and I can't turn it up very loud. But during the chorus, for me it seemed a little empty in that one spot. But overall, great!

Warren- Thanks, and yeah, didn't we all play this song on gigs and in jams. Bill- Supercala... (whatever) thanks to you, and, hey, did you notice you got your requested bass solo in this one? Janet- Thank you, and thanks for the heads up on the site (apparently a Soundclick issue fixed now). RAWK- Midwest pronunciation? Rik- Thanks. Yeah that Danny Boy can play, can't he? There are rumors that his guitar neck was smoldering after that solo. Shawn- Thanks for the listen and comments (on Rough Patch too)... appreciate it. Dean- Thanks, glad you liked it. James- Thanks for the listen and comments. Yup, we all played it, but I never got sick of it. And yes, I was in a different place on the first verse. I was trying to lay it back to set up the big burst in verse 2, and I wound up doing it sounding like a 'doper.' Everyone liked the approach, so I stayed with it. In fact the entire vocal was one shot straight thru on the original scratch version, and I never changed it. Herb- If you came back for seconds I'm feeling even better about what we did. Thank you! Richard- Many thanks for those really kind words. And last but DEFINITELY not least... Danny- My idol, friend, mentor, brother, tormentor and spiritual guide... Thanks once again for helping to turn one of my quirky ideas into something special. Ed- You are just the best friend I could have. Been there with me and for me from pretty much my first day on the forum. Great bassist, great guy and turning into one helluva good producer. Geesh, this is getting pretty mushy, huh? Time to go....

Now that is a very cool blend of styles for a very unusual interpretation (I'm used to the Aerosmith version). I enjoyed everything about this one. As a guitar player I am deeply envious of the smoking hot (yet very melodic) leads on this one. Great job guys, glad you decided to bring this one to the light. Nice work!

Thanks again for the solo comments guys...to think I almost tried to talk Phil out of them because I just thought the majority would have thought "why did you have to ruin this tune with playing like that?!" Phil insisted I let loose a little and now I'm really glad I listened to him. Initially I had planned to just hang in the pocket with a little blues...but Phil pulled a Clash of the Titans line on me "Unleeeassh the Daniac" LOL! Thanks James...I try my best. :) I know my style isn't for most people and it's an acquired taste....but I'm glad quite a few more people dug it than I thought would. I've been smiling like crazy reading the awesome comments in this thread about the tune. But I honestly never thought anyone would even comment on the solo part other than "umm...who's the dude throwing up all over on the guitar ruining the tune?" -Danny

Janet Danny: told ya! That you did my dear Janet. :) Ah you know how it goes...sometimes we all get a little self-conscious of our playing...fear of the unknown....new/different audience...I'm sure you can relate. :) I know we got a tough crowd here at times too, so I was almost afraid to read this thread when I heard the tune was finally posted. LOL! I knew the other guys all delivered the goods...but in my mind, each time I listened to my parts I kept singing that Sesame Street song..."one of these things just doesn't belong here" LOL! -Danny

@thepogue - thanks for listening, I'm satisfied the way it came out @Scoobie - the rest of the guys amaze me too. you are not alone. @CreatingNoise - Phil has this knack for blending styles. We fight but in the end we have to agree with him. @Slug - Imagine being there the whole journey. I for one had fun. @paulo - thanks for the kind words. @spacey - you just like it cuz the bass you made me is in 95% of the song, huh? Thanks for commenting. @geeare1- thanks for listening and mentioning the horns. My son did great IMO. @mgh - see? My son is not just a metal head (he did the horns). thanks for the kudos all around. @57Gregy - thanks for listening @james - I admit that I auditioned many kicks and worked for over three hours on that kick sound. Thanks. Yeah, Danny is coming along, huh? @Janet - thanks for warming Danny's heart. @Danny - see? Phil was right. OK, you don't have to admit it. I will for you.

Superior Metal Foundry's 18x22 Tomas Haake Custom SQ2. Used Filter and Comp on Kick In channel and EQ ad Transient (Superior's) on the Kick Out channel. The whole kit (drums only) was then sent thru Magnetic and UAD's EMT 140. I kept the cymbals separate as I did not like MF's cymbals. I used Superior's Custom and Vintage cymbals independent of the Drum FX.

Hey, Guys, I've been away and I'm late to the party on this kick-butt, killer remake of one of my old favorites! I'm on my fourth listen, and this is a really unique and very tasty interpretation that truly exudes "glossy" class, and excellent musicianship by everyone involved in the project. Phil's great vox almost instantly reminded me of either Lou Reed or possibly Iggy, Danny's killer guitar tone and fiery solos were absolutely spectacular, and Ed's playing and new Spacey bass sounded terrific holding down the bottom end along with the perfect drum track. The keys, uke bass and horn parts added a very cool "spicy" texture and vibe to the crystal clear, modern sounding mix. Really amazing job on this cool classic, guys! Bob

Great sounding stuff here. I really like how the brass section compliments the arrangement. It felt to me like the bass guitar needs a bit more definition. It was there so it wouldn't need much just didn't feel like it had enough clarity within this great sounding mix. Thanks for sharing, Tom

Well, as usual I'm late to the party, LOL. After reading all the comments here there's really nothing I can add, I agree with everybody, this is an amazing collab and right up my alley, been doing this song since the original came out. Of course, now when I do it I'll think of this version and feel kinda inadequate, LOL. Oh, and Danny, being a fellow guitarist I think I'll avoid the rush and just start hating you now. Just kidding of course, I love your style, keep spankin' that plank! Tremendous job guys, and thanks for sharing it!!
