Warning - DON'T buy Ob-tune!
I thought I'd pass on this story in case anyone is thinking of buying Oberheim's Ob-Tune. I bought it around 2 years ago. Three weeks ago I repartitioned a secondary hard drive, i.e. my OS was not on that drive. Naturally, 'cause of that #*($*(#)-ing PACE, Ob-Tune didn't start. I went to the Oberheim website and to get the new Response to my Challenge code. 1 1/2 weeks later, I still hadn't been emailed the response, so I emailed support at Musicyo (the company which distributes Ob-Tune). Needless to say, I have not heard back from them to this day (it's been a month). I just wanted to post this so people could avoid wasting their money the way I did, since PACE, combined with a piece of crap company like Oberheim, just made a piece of legally-paid-for software totally useless. I know there have a been a million PACE threads on this message board, but I wanted to share my story so other people, who maybe were thinking of buying a far more expensive product like Antares Autotune, could avoid losing a much more significant amount of money than I did.

ORIGINAL: agincourtdb There's a third program by Akai called pitchright that I've been considering in place of Autotune or Obtune. Does anybody know about it? Does it contain PACE copy protection? Read the fine print in their authorization details, or see if they use dongle-based authorization (dead giveaway).

ORIGINAL: mobamoba I thought I'd pass on this story in case anyone is thinking of buying Oberheim's Ob-Tune. I bought it around 2 years ago. ... Well, I've owned OB-Tune literally since it first came out. For 50 bucks it's WAY more affordable than full featured Antares and it meets my needs... for now. I have gone through 3 versions of SONAR and a move to XP Pro and OB-Tune has come along for the ride with no problems. Music Yo has been very responsive and sent me a link for the updated XP version. When I went to my new DAW and S3, Music Yo was there again with the new response that I needed to get OB-Tune running again. I use it regularly in my projects with no apparent ill effects except... (I saw this mentioned in a PACE thread today) on RARE occasions I have had SONAR just shut off, blank out, go away. I STRESS rare, I have never been able to trace this anomoly. I saw it mentioned as a potential byproduct of PACE. My overall experience with OB-Tune has been excellent. It keeps me in tune, yunno?
-Phoen1x the artist formerly known as Peter J new music soon from Tightrope Fortune! It is middle-of-the-blade super bang for the buck! The BAM is in the RAM. ;-|

That's really not something I wanted to hear. I'm just about to upgrade my system. So I will lose OBtune, that's too bad. I don't use it a lot, but it's invaluable when you need it. I never found it was good to use on an entire track though, to me it just sucked all the life out of the vocal. I try to only use it on actual real trouble spots and leave the rest of the track untouched. R

I bought obtune too... pretty good for 50 bucks. But that pace stuff stinks.... Wouldn't it be nice if there were an "InterLok Killer" out there available for download? This would be great for people who bought the software but the shame is that many others who did not buy it would abuse it... Perhaps in longhorn, microsoft will have a special part of the registry devoted to shareware that can be backed-up and verified by the software companies via the internet. This would certainly help the people who legitimately buy the software--instead they are being punished now...

ORIGINAL: djoni autotune rocks Yeah AT4 is really nice... A good part of that PACE hell is going to disappear with the iLok keys. I heard Antares will offer them soon. Erik.

I too have had ob-tune for a long while. I have been through all the upgrades changes of OS and so on with no problems. The support has always been friendly and first rate. I have had no crashes whilst using OB-tune. I also have Pitchright. It is not as good or subtle as Ob-tune (if used correctly) but it has uses when you sing really badly (which I do with astonishing regularity!) This is not a defence of PACE (as I bought it before I knew anything about it) but just a recount of my experiences.

Just wanted to vent my anger, while we're on the issue of copy protection, and maybe in case someone here knows something. I need to move my authorization of Bitheadz Unity Sampler to another *new* machine, but Bitheadz went down, so I will probably need to buy something else. Very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I 2nd Auto-Tune is a very nice program if it meets with your budget. Industry standard for a reason. I appreciate the low cost of OB-Tune, I have never used it. I am glad to hear that it works well for $50 bucks. Antares has always been quick to help me whenever I have had a problem. FI, I lost my serial number and they helped me with-in minutes when I built a new computer and needed to reload Auto-Tune. Good Luck

My experience with OB Tune has been good. For $50, it's a steal, considering the price of Antares. Plus, they say they use the Antares algorithm in there. I did loose my response code when I setup my new DAW, and I e-mailed Music Yo and received no response for 2 days. Then I sent an email from the form directly on their website. I got an apology within a day (for not responding to my first email), and my response code the next day, after I send them the question code. So all in all, okay service. I've heard that the Akai one is not so good. It's a CPU hog, plus doesn't sound so good. Consider that Akia throws it in free with other things you can buy from them.

In a word, yes. I've used OBtune for several months now. No problems, and works with 24/96 recordings. Hope that helps. Frank
