what's also interesting is that plugs like the J37 have noise (which the old hardware unit apparently produced) enabled in the default settings. sometimes I'm after a vintage flavour, but I'm never after the noise ... and it gets pretty disturbing that when you push stop and start to hear some low level noise in your monitor speakers that was not there the day before ... and damn, it's not something on its way out, it's that damn plug again that I added and keep forgetting to pull the noise dial down

Did a paper on that exact topic when I was in college - demonstrated amazing digital (mostly midi) technology using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 - and wrapped up with the "new" drive to make digital sound like analog. Brian

Of course the market includes soundtrack makers who may need a "period" sound, they may be bigger users than those making "stand-alone" music.

https://youtu.be/J7aqPEUPTLE TL;DW: It models much more than vinyl crackle and frequency limiting. The whole AR vinyl mastering process is emulated, plus options for different turntables and cartridges. Intro price will be $99; $79 for Abbey Road bundle owners. Perhaps a bit less at resellers. Cheers, Eddie

It also emulates the location on the record where you want to emulate. For example, the inner diameter of the vinyl has a lower frequency spectrum and higher treble distortion than the outer edge. They've even included the emulation of the Mastering console AR's used when processing audio strictly for vinyl.
What this allows, is, someone like me who Masters, but doesn't primarily do a lot of vinyl. Using this emulation, I can start to hear how my masters will translate to vinyl. So, not only does it give people a cool tweakable plug-in, it can actually take a lot of the guesswork out of Vinyl Pre-Mastering.

AR Vinyl is amazing. Amazing, I tell you! And I ain't talking about pops and crackles. I turn that stuff down. The AR vinyl mastering chain is apparently a font of harmonically rich analog vibes. Just try putting this plug on a mix, early in the chain so that you aren't hitting it too hard. The clarity, focus, depth ... bypassing it takes you back to what now sounds dull, flat, and lifeless. Those Waves guys have really outdone themselves this time. Only certain Nebula and UAD plugins can compare to what this thing does. As with most of the Waves Abbey Road plugs, CPU usage is high. About on par with the TG12345 channel strip. Not nearly as high as the Plates reverb, thankfully. And there are about 200MB of IR files -- as with the Plates plugin, Vinyl is at least partially convolution-based. YMMV, but Vinyl is well worth a demo. And the price is more than fair -- keep in mind that Waves may have extra promos during BF next week, so it might pay to hold off buying until then. But regardless, I'd say it's a bargain. Cheers, Eddie

sold, not that i really needed a push, but i have respect for your opinion, and your 'min review' (and zo's video) seals it for me. i think i'll grab it know and not bother waiting to see if the price drops further, seems like a bargain, and i am a waves fan
