OTOH I love the tape saturation effect I got with J37.

The Vinyl is not a lo-Fi, bad sounding record effect. The closest thing to it is tape deck plugins or an old console. The circuit in the tape deck gives it a certain sound. Same for Vinyl. It's just a vinyl cutting machine.

It's Bass, not Bass.

I'm aware of that (as I explained in my previous post). What I said is that there's no physical equivalent of magnetic saturation on the vinyl medium. You need to EQ and compress things heavily when cutting to avoid having your low frequencies making the needle jump on the surface of the disc for instance.  Although this process certainly is part of the "sound" of vinyl, I don't think these limitations are good in any sense. But, as I also said, I never tried this plugin. I'll do that some day... and maybe I can even like it. Just not now as I have better plugs to spend my hard earned IMHO (like the new AAS Objeq delay for instance).

After getting into Waves plugs about a year an a half ago (and loving the sound), I find that one of the better "features" of Waves plugins is the Waves system. I don't see it talked about too much at all. But it's one of the things I really like about Waves plugins. If you haven't learned the Waves system yet, and you have Waves plugs, do yourself a favor. Take a few minutes to read about it in whatever plugin manual you have. It's the same for every one of their plugins.

What did you mean talking about "Waves system"? I opened an AudioTrack and H-EQ manuals and i don't see anything looking like Waves system... did you mean this mono/stereo, 1-band-8-band things, or is it something different?
PS: just got a H-EQ, which finished my Hybrid collection. Awesome deal series from Waves. I know there's always something is on sale, but i got all my wanted plugins month by month, with exactly right deals each time.

Grem is correct. There are a few tutorials at Groove3 that have a section on the Waves system. I know Musicians 2 tut has it but can't remember the other or others.

Anybody have the H EQ? I prob would have upgraded to the whole H Bundle but H Delay and H Comp got locked up in Gold when I upgraded to it. Only time upgrading Waves cost me something like that. The lesson is don't use every plug you have to upgrade without thinking it through a bit.

The forum software AGAIN screwed a long post I did. I'll not repost it. The last time It was recovered later. Just take a look at the plugs contained in the Dave Clarke EMP Toolbox (got it from Koby for $89, upgrading from Scheps 73). A nice collection of plugs without much overlap with Gold.

I also wrote another long post that didn't show up after.

@veenee: there is no "Waves System" info in the H-EQ user guide, look in the H-Comp user guide. Chapter 4.

Well, they're both good on vocals, depending on your kind of music. H-Comp would maybe fit lead vocals better. On the other hand, you can't find many LA-3A vst versions and this one's also good on guitars and drums but not that special.

In theory, H-Comp is more versatile as you can adjust all the usual parameters and some. In practice, I almost always end up using one of these vintage emulations. Because of this and also the fact that I never seen CLA-3A on sale before (and its MSRP is well higher), I probably would choose it.

But, if you have other similar vintage opto compressor emulations, as BD said, and if you've already tested both and still think they're comparable, maybe H-Comp would be a better choice in the long term.

For anything above $50, DK39S is better (it's usually around 12% off) vs the $6 off with voucher.

Sadly this isn't helping me decide what (if anything I want to get).  I went the entire month of March without buying any audio stuff (on purpose).  I broke my "fast" in April(got the Soundiron bundle and Realitone Ladies) but now I'm just not feeling it anymore.  So out of tune.  Maybe Waves has a plugin for that?
