Waves GTR3 not functioning as plugin in Sonar 8.3.1

Hi,

I've found entries on this topic, but am still having issues getting Waves GTR3 to function as a plugin in Sonar 8.5.3 64 bit after implementing the recommendations found.  It works fine in standalone mode, but doesn't even open up as a plugin - it just appears as a greyed out box and doesn't affect the sound signal at all.  I realize Waves doesn't officially support Win 64, (and their tech support wouldn't even talk about it.. ugh), but have read several people on this forum have been able to get it working properly.

I've disabled x-ray and used vst2shell to convert the waves shell.dll to separate VST plugin .dll's, and have included the path to those .dll's in Sonar's plugin manager path (and have re-scanned VSTs afterwards).  I haven't tried using jbridge yet, as people say it should work with the included bitbridge.

Is there anything else I'm forgetting?  Also, could someone please explicitly indicate exactly which subdirectory needs to be included in Sonar's plugin manager path, as there are a few different waves subdirectories that include .dll's.  I've included them all, just to be sure, however still no luck.

As background info, my setup is as follows:
Dell Dual Xeon Quad Core CPUs, 8 Gig RAM, 3 hard drives, Windows 7 64 bit, Sonar 8.5.3 64 bit, Waves GTR3 V6, Mackie Onyx 400F, BFD2, UAD-1 - all with latest patches, etc.

Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

    . . . . . . .- it just appears as a greyed out box and doesn't affect the sound signal at all.   . . . . . .

Try closing the plug-in then reopening.  I think this will fix your problem.

Psalmist35 - thanks.. yes, I should have mentioned that I've also been repeatedly opening / closing the plugin to no avail.  I've also removed / deleted the plugin from the FX track bin and reinserted as well without any luck.

Yorolpal - are you using the 64bit version of 8.5.3 Producer Edition?

    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks

Yorolpal - thanks.  What path(s) are you including to the GTR3 .dll's within Sonar's plugin mgr?
    Thanks for your help.

I've removed and reinstalled GTR3 v6.  Did everything again from scratch - used shell2vst, ensured x-ray is disabled, included the path to the resulting .dll's in Sonar's plugin manager, rescanned the VSTs, etc.. and have tried closing / opening the plugin several times with the same results.  GTR3 works fine in standalone mode, but when used as a Sonar plugin, the plugin just opens as a small grey box and doesn't seem to affect the input signal.

Anybody - Any other ideas?  I'm stumped.  Help!
    Thanks

    I'm running version 7 software...maybe that's your problem.

I was thinking that might be a possibility, so just paid $30 for waves support and downloaded / installed GTR3 v7 - went through all the same steps and alas, still the same issue.  ugh...

    Any other suggestions guys?
    Thanks again for the help.

Geeze, bummer.  OK here's something to try that shouldn't cost you a dime.  Update your video card drivers.

Thanks for the reply.. I really do appreciate you hanging in there with me.  I already do have the latest drivers on my video card.  For kicks - it's an NVidia Quadro FX1700 w/ 512 meg onboad dedicated video memory.

I hadn't really thought it was a video related issue, since the audio signal isn't being affected by the plugin, as well as the plugin not opening, so I assumed it was a plugin related issue.  That said, given x-ray being enabled has caused similar symptoms, I'll noodle around with video settings to see if anything's enabled that shouldn't be.

In the meantime, if anybody has any other suggesitons, I'd greatly appreciate them.
    Thanks again

Quick update - I played around with audio option configuration settings and somehow now the audio is now working when GTR3 is loaded as a plugin, although it's still not displaying properly and just opens up as a grey box.

I don't know how the audio is suddenly working properly - I'm stumped.  I changed the I/O buffers to 24 (from 256), changed dithering from triangular to Powr-3 and changed reduced default bit depth from 24 to 16 and 96000 samples to 44100 for new projects.    After the audio suddenly worked, I changed all settings back to isolate the fix, the audio seems to work properly now regardless of changing any of those settings back and forth.  I have no idea what changed.. it's really stumping me.

Anyway, it's still not usable given the plugin just opens up as a grey box, so I can't adjust settings, change amps, etc., so I'd still appreciate any thoughts anybody has.
    Thanks again
