Thanks cclarry I don't know where the Facebook voucher code is. Where exactly is it? I've 'Liked' their page by the way. Cheers.

Zippsinc,

You'll have to scroll down quite a ways to find the Waves Voucher Code...
It was given back in June, but I know it's still good because I checked mine...
I don't know if it's the same for everyone..

Meno,

That's AWESOME!!!  You'll be quite happy you did!

I am currently running the Waves Gold demo in expectation of buying it this weekend.  I would like to do some organizing prior to the purchase.  I am expecting that the purchase should be seamless and I would get a full authorization code or something to that effect without having to reinstall the plugins.

I made a mistake of installing the plugs in my VST folder and now I want to move them to a Waves folder.  Will a Drag and Drop of the plugs into a new folder cause me any grief later on?

I would recommend a re-install...

There is a path set up upon installation ...and moving them would
probably render them unusable...

I have to say there is a whole lot to like
in Gold...

For those who have IR-L ...there is a web site
for Waves IR Libraries...

http://www.acoustics.net/content.asp?id=49

Some nice IR's in here...

The Plate 140 (EMT 140) is nice..

And the V Series has a lot of character...

haven't had the opportunity to get into them in depth yet...

But there's a whole lot to look at...

One thing I am liking is the graphics seem to be higher contrast and easier to read.  A lot of the graphic images in SONAR look a bit fuzzy and without clean sharp lines to me.

Thanks for the heads up on this.
ohgrant,

Your quite welcome !!

ModBod...

I have to agree...I've always been a fan of Waves plugins...I just never could afford them...
Their interfaces are always quite colorful and pleasant and well laid out...

This summer sale has been a HUGE godsend for me...

First, even though I was a huge fan, up until recently they were still 32 bit, so I wouldn't buy them...
Then V9 came out and are 64 bit..so THAT, for me was a BIG stepping stone..

Then the Summer Sale came...and FINALLY, after some well thought out and thorough planning...

I got $2500 worth of plugs for less then $500...that's 80 percent off...

I had to sacrifice a LOT of other things..but, it was worth it (to me)

I want to pick up Vocal Rider and Aphex before the sale is over..

And, I have to put my pennies away for X2...but have a few months for that...

Can I ask what folks think of Vocal Rider? Does it bring anything else to the table which compression and/or automation can't?

Not really zipps...

It's more a time and work saver then anything...set your limits and it does the leveling for you..

But nothing that you can't do yourself by editing the gain envelope and automating...

And if your time is money..then ...it's probably a good investment...

Waves August Promo...

Gold Bundle or Gold Bundle Upgrade 50% Off.  Gold Bundle is $399 and upgrade is $250
AudioDeluxe price is $297.99

And the Waves V-Series Plugs are now included in Gold Bundle....Just the V-Series is $375

Man, you Waves guys are really plugin junkies  ;-)  So, to stir the pot a little, why do I need this bundle full of compressors, EQ's and verbs when I already have a boatload of said plugs?  Are these plugs that much better than, say, IK's plugs, or Sonar's offerings?  I get the "30 plugs for $300" argument, and unfortunately I don't have a voucher to get me a better deal than that (which is almost criminal), but I am having a hard time justifying the expense just for MaxxBass, PAZ, UltraPitch, and maybe GTR3, which I probably don't have an equivalent for, and a whole complement of compressors, EQs and verbs, which I probably already have covered.  Money is not the issue ... why I really need these plugs is ... somebody help me out here!

Different plugs bring different "character" and "colorization" with them..

The Waves plugs are quite good....I have T-Racks Deluxe, and the White 2A and Black 76.  They also are quite good.

It's basically a plethora of tools....because, when mixing, you never know what is going to add the "right" character to
fit nicely in the mix.

GTR 3.5 is amazing, to me....I only played my guitar through a few of the presets...but it definitely sounds like a mic'd guitar amp.
You get the inflection of the speaker and of the picking, etc....I like it alot.
I also have Guitar Rig 5, which I like a lot....

I only have Amplitube 3 Custom Shop....I'm not a BIG fan...but it serves it's purpose...

It's the same with these.....If you already have an Amp sim.....then why have more?

Basically because EACH is "sonicly" different and has it's own "character"

All in all...I find the Waves plugs to be the most "pleasing" to my ear..

BTW...I just picked up Breeze (a Reverb) by 2C Audio.....all I can say is WOW!!!  I just plugged in the first preset..and HOLY MACKEREL...awesome...
I guess you could ask the same question about Reverbs...why have a million when Perfect Space is just fine...it's their "Sonic Character"
that sets them apart...

But when you consider that some of the worlds biggest producers, JJP, CLA, Kramer, Maserati, all endorse and USE Waves Plugs
both LIVE and in the Studio...that has to say something....at least I would think...

I just watched the CLA interview, and he used Kramer HLS Channel on a track in a song he was mixing...as well as his own plugs

They could use whatever plugs they want and whatever outboard gear they want...and they use Waves...

So, it's all a preference thing...but I've gotta tell you...they sure bring a lot  of "tools" to the table

I would say to demo them as I am doing and if you think they are making things better or getting you to a finished product quicker then consider buying them at this good price.

I personally, like the GUI and some of the specific tools I would use to correct problems or enhance a track.  Waves have been touted as some of the best plugins around for a long time.  I happen to like companies who have been around for a long time because they have something to lose if they don't meet customer expectations.  Waves + 64 bit + new authorization system (doesn't really matter now)+ quality + affordability + usefulness + need is what's driving my decision.

Thanks for the responses ... you guys bring up a number of good points.  I watched a lot of the YouTube videos regarding Mastering with Waves, and some were helpful while others were a little confusing.  But, they show what can be done with some of the Gold Bundle tools, which I found useful.  However, I didn't see a lot of difference, particularly with respect to problem correction, that isn't already addressed by other tools that I have.  Sonic signatures and enhancement, on the other hand, are things that are harder to evaluate without demoing the actual plugs, so perhaps that is where I need to go next.  I just may end up in this boat before it's all over with ...

My 2 cents - yes, they're worth it.  Do you need them? Nope. You can achieve a perfectly good mix only w/ Sonar's native plug-in.

Are they that much better? Question of taste I guess. I think they usually are. If you can create a good mix using Sonar plug-ins, then Waves might give you a little extra sheen - but nothing that will make or break a mix.

I do own T-Racks and all the extras, including the Black-76 and the White 2A. Throughout the last year, I've tried and tried to use them in my mixes - only to find myself going back to Logic's native compressor set either in Opto or FET mode. Pretty much every time. It sounded so much"tighter" and also had an option to add pleasant distortion if needed. The IK plug-ins seem to put the emphasis on the distortion and warmth, but didn't seem to cut it in terms of dynamic.

I was pretty much convinced that I'd stick to my native compressor. Then I demo'ed Waves equivalent - their versions of the 1176 and LA-2A. Now these work like I'd expect. I couldn't believe how punchier the CLA-76 was. The Black-76 gave me an approximation of the color of a vintage hardware compressor. Waves delivers the color PLUS effective compression.

Let me put it this way - for a year, I've tried and tried to use T-Racks and couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong w/ me that I couldn't set it up to works as I was reading it should so I ended up removing it and re-inserting another comp. 2 minutes w/ Waves' demo, and I had that CLA-76 set up and punching its way through the mix  and there was no doubt that I didn't want to replace it w/ anything else. I bought it almost on the spot.

For middle of the road overdrive and clean sounds, GTR is also better imho. IMHO, Amplitube sounds like a plastic box - unless you bypass the cab and use speaker impulses. Then it's pretty similar to GTR. I don't like the hi gain stuff in either of them. Waves GUI makes a whole lot more sense to me - you don't need to move back and forth and you can adjust the amp and the cabs parameters on the same screen. Less flexible, less exhaustive list of models, but it has the merits of being very easy to set up and get a good sound. I see it as a preset bank, filled mostly w/ great sounding patches (exception of heavier/hi gain stuff as I mentioned).

Waves stuff simply work. There's got to be a reason why so many top engineers have relied on plug-ins like the Renaissance Compressor and EQ for over 10 years and continue to do so. FWIW...

Thanks for the info on VocalRider guys. I'm going to hold off on it for now though and do some research. I have the rest of this month to consider it so no hurry.

What I have done though is pull the trigger on the Gold Upgrade.

For approx 140 smackeroonies (GBP), I get the 21 Gold plugins I didn't already have:

L1 Ultramaximizer, UltraPitch, TrueVerb, S1, C1, C4, PS22, MondoMod, DeEsser, Paz Psychoacoustic Analyzer, Enigma, Doppler, Q10, Paragraphic Equalizer, AudioTrack, MV2, H-Comp, H-Delay, V-Comp, V-EQ3, V-EQ4, GTR3.

It's worth it alone for for the 'V' series and GTR3. Although I use the UAD-2 Neves and dig doing so in order to save CPU power, once I run out of UAD-2 DSP, moving onto the V-EQ3 and V-EQ4 will be familiar and comfortable territory but with a different GUI.

New users are getting a blinding deal on this by the way. It should be too good to pass up if you can stretch to afford it.

Thanks

Stewart

Hmm - you guys are making this difficult.  I've been pondering the Softube bundle, Summit Grand Channel, and now the Gold.  Thought I might be able to do the upgrade since I have Vocal & Bass Rider but the upgrade applies to owners of the plugs in the Gold bundle.  I have tRacks which I've been using less and less, Fabfilter plugs which I love so I find myself like leapinliz.. wondering if I really need any of them (maybe :-) or just want them (surely!).

New users are getting a blinding deal on this by the way. It should be too good to pass up if you can stretch to afford it.

You got that right....

This bundle, when not on sale, lists for $800 (Native) and sells for $600.

So even at the sale price of $399...thats 33% off the regular NON list price and 50% off list...

That's 30 great plugs....that's $13 a plug....that, to me, is ludicrous...

MY total for Gold, was $175.  I got both NPP, whcih got me the upgrade to Gold, and Gold for $175 TOTAL ...THAT IS CRAZY!!!

That breaks down to $5.83 a plug.....WOW....KOOOO KOOOO KA CHOOOO

Thanks Waves for a CRAZY summer deal fest!!!

Yes, v9.1 was released & PS22 Native is now included. Using WOLI it can re-install all your  v9.0 purchased plugins automatically.

Well, I jumped in.

I'm having some issues with GTR 3. I can get it to run in stand alone mode but as a VST I get no sound or a crash. Any love out there?

I'm not sure I want to start a new thread on this. Probably something easy that I'm over-looking.

EDIT: Seems Tool Rack Mono/Stereo doesn't work but Tool Rack Stereo does.

Problem solved. For now.
