Waves Plugins V.S. X-Ray

This is a real strange one.

My Waves plugins works great on any song created in X2. I have X2 all up to date.

On any of my older Sonar 8/X1 etc. songs when I try to install a Waves Plug-in I get the "Plugin not valid or not-installed" error.  Note...when I made these songs I did not have Waves.

After spending too much time trying to figure out the problem I decided to turn off X-Ray in the Preferences/Display setting.

And lo and behold when I insert a Waves plugin it now works perfect.

I really hate spending time with these kinds of problems. Do the pro's deal with this crap too?
