No hoax, not officially released but it's on the latest version update & installs automatically as part of the Mercury bundle. Too early to tell, briefly tried on acc gtrs, sounded nice. The new gain feature on the WLM works well too.

I wanna try this ... any info on price? If it works as well as the RS56 (the visual resemblance is striking), I may have to grab it, even though Nebula has a couple 1073 emulations that are pretty good. But this would be so much easier to use ... Cheers, Eddie

Seems a bit strange as they already have a 1073 emulation to bring out another new one rather than an update. But I guess revenue and new interest is what they are after.

Yes, it seems funny since they already have the V-series, but if this new one is in the same league as the RS56, which IMHO was a quantum leap ahead of any other Waves EQ and as good as anything else out there, I'd say a brand-new model is justified. Cheers, Eddie

Only tried 5 or so far, no noticeable cpu hit. With it's drive/preamp feature it's probably similar to REDD. Need to try it more material but so far am pleased. Briefly on my Drm buss with BFD3/ VBC RED; clean & punchy. Got a decent sound using it on my Jazz bass, similar sounding to the Pultec emus I have. Don't know what masses will think but it'll get used here.

I was thinking to not re-wup but it looks like this may be reason to. My WUP exp'd one month ago. WUP=$215 at AD which pretty much pays for that stuff.

Totally different beast. This is Scheps emu (plus whomever worked on it, not sure exactly) with his / their design & features. IMO it's comparable to both REDD & RS56.

About $85 at the usual discounters (Audio Deluxe, Plugin Discounts, etc). Looks like a faithful emulation of the standard 1073 (with the addition of the 10kHz midband), not a model of some modified unit. The Scheps name is on it since he was involved in the development. The preamp section sets this apart from most other emus out there, like UAD's. Now for some demoing. :-) Cheers, Eddie

Let me know what you think. I'm using it instead of PSP's Neve emu I have in projects & replacing others. I put it on par with RS56 which I also like & use quite a bit. I stopped using Nebula altogether, although the quality is usually better I can't cope with the workflow. The quality's getting better with the majority of newer plugin releases too.

After trying it out on several sources including drums and guitars, I have to say that Waves has the best 1073 emu I've heard outside Nebula. To me, it edged out UAD and put the old VEQ3 to shame. HOWEVER, I'm spoiled by the Nebula sound, so unless I get tired of using that, I'll keep my AlexB emulations in my projects (his API 550A is my current go-to for this style of EQ). I still may pick up the Scheps when it inevitably goes on sale. I still use RS56 a lot, and it seems Waves have matched its quality and ease-of-use with this new one. Nice job, Waves. Cheers, Eddie

Well, I have Kramer Tape (included in Mercury), Magnetic I & II, UAD Studer, Slate VTM, Ferric TDS and probably a few more I cannot think of right now. What (besides vanity and namesake history) does the J37 do that any of these others don't?

I agree about the old V-series, never cared for it myself, no comparison to this. I still use Alex B's CLC on channels & busses but that's about it. It's still my favorite console emu out there. No more Neb. eq's though, I need at least 100 instances for a 20 track project. Just too much for my system with all the other vi's & plugins being used.

They added a True Peak Limiter to WLM. Play an entire mix through, check the trim control to see how far off you are from your target. Click the trim button & will automatically adjust the track to the target. I mix my source tracks to -23 LUFS / -8, -10 dbTP so it never limits, just adjusts the track to the target about 1db +/-

My favorite J37 feature is the delay they added. It's very cool and allows frequency dependent delays. I put it on acoustic guitar and it just comes alive. I've really just scratched the surface with J37 and I've never tried all those you list. My R&D budget is a tad small for the really fancy stuff.

It seems you prefer a clean digital EQ sound, which is fine, but IMHO the PSP EQs do not have the character of more recent EQs like the latest Waves models you mention. To me, the Scheps and RS56 really do sound like hardware. I find the PSPs to be similar to cleaner EQs such as those from Nomad Factory -- to my ears, the ClassicQ sounds a lot like Nomad's 1081 emulation in their British bundle, for example. Which, again, isn't a bad thing. Just a different sound. (I'm a fan of both PSP and Nomad, BTW.) I must say, after using the Scheps on additional sources such as vocals, I'm liking it more and more. Will keep this on my buy list, but I'm anxious to see how Slate does with his forthcoming model. Good times, good times. Cheers, Eddie

That's odd, because I'm hearing the opposite here. I think there's way more mojo and character in the PSP EQs and I think the Waves does have it, just doesn't sound 'real' as in like hardware. I think the Scheps sounds a lot thinner than ClassicQ, especially when boosting the high end, and the lows break up easier, and aren't as solid either.
