Waves Vocal rider Installation - HELP PLEASE!
Hi Quick background - purchased Waves Gold and GTR many many years ago - fell out with Waves due to their dubious sales / marketing tactics, so NEVER upgraded or purchased any other Waves products. I managed to reinstall all my Waves products on my new Windows 7 64 bit machine running Sonar x1 Expanded with no issues and all working fine. Now the problem - I just purchased Vocal rider - stupidly I did not fully check the Waves site first and only noticed this potential problem when registering / attempting download. My Waves Shells are 5's and it says on the Waves 8 download that it:- "V3, V4, V5, and V8 cannot run concurrently on the same computer. V8 installations will completely uninstall previously installed Waves versions V3, V4, and V5 of ALL products." Now obviously I do not have Vocal rider installed on my machine, so I assume during the Waves 8 installation, all I select is Vocal Rider - I am then hoping that all the Waves 8 installer will do is install this ONE product and all will be well. But my past experience of Waves somewhat dubious approach makes me question if that is all that will happen! Last thing I want is for Waves 8 to delete all my existing Waves stuff in an attempt to make me spend yet more money with them and upgrade to the latest versions! With Waves, once (or more!) bitten twice shy in my book! Anyone know if I will be OK to just try and install Vocal rider - thanks Nigel

Hmmm, not much help here but I just Installed Kramers Tube and Tape bundle Version 8. I also had existing SSL and API but went for it anyway. Everything went without a hitch. Then I noticed that the SSL and API were version 6. something. Your best bet is to contact Waves. I had a similar issue going from 4 to 6 with SSL and they hooked me up with some updater and even threw in the 2 new G-channel plugs. It took loads of persistence but I finally got my update. I've considered signing up for the Waves WUP-yer wallet plan but wanted to see what NAMM brought about. If you figure it out please let us know. Thanks. Michael Mke

Mike I was hoping to do this without contacting the ever so helpful people at Waves - I really did fall out with them in a big way - After having spent a not inconsiderable sum of money on their top of the range processor package I then purchased the full (and again expensive) GTR package with hardware input module solely for use with Sonar - when Waves launched GTR it DIDN'T work in Sonar although it said it did on the Waves website - however when I pointed this out to them they quickly changed their website then pretended they have never claimed Sonar comparability - then to make it worse they wanted me to sign up and pay for the WUP to give me a version that would work as advertised! Unbelievable. Anyway through being a bit of a PITA they eventually did upgrade me FOC. This was quite some years ago and whilst the Company's ethics and business practices seem extremely dubious, I've always liked some of the products - still think GTR is one of if not my favourite Guitar processors for instance. So I thought I'd give them another try - perhaps I should have thought more carefully - what's that saying - Leopards don't change their spots!!! I'll let you know how I get on Nigel

I am sorry I cannot offer any assistance or words of advice. However, I am somewhat bothered by what I am reading, and will follow this thread to see how things work out. 1: Buy a product 2: Decide to buy more products, but not upgrade existing 3: Company will remove ALL older products when you install the new - unless you upgrade them. YIKES! I sure hope that is not how they operate! Especially considering most (if not all) of the older products have never had any updates.
Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take! A. Do a backup of your existing waves directories before installing V8 plugs. 2. I should think that if you install to another location you would just have another location to point to in your DAW for plugins. iii. If #2 does delete, recover form step 1 (errrrm A.)

Well an update - I made sure I had all my installation discs etc, did a back up, installed into a different location, was very careful on installation to ONLY select vocal rider for installation - I sat and watched while the installer seemed to be installing a lot of stuff, far more than the single plug in I had chosen and when finished, yes it had DELETED all my existing Waves Plug ins!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before rolling back, I thought I would just test Waves Statement about version 8 could not be used with previous versions, so I just reinstalled my Old Waves Stuff which is Wavesell 5.2 or something like that. Once reinstalled, yes you guessed, they all work perfectly happily together - so after some very unnecessary hassle, I now have my original Old Waves Gold and GTR and my new Vocal Rider. What this says about the ethics of Waves I'll think I'll let you make your own minds up!! Nigel

Well yes I suppose so, but really, why do they have to be like this! Waves drive me mad - some pretty good products but their business ethics............... Thinking carefully about this, I wonder which company I like least... Native Instruments or Waves!! Perhaps we should have a pole for the most hated software provider...... Nigel

Sweet. Thanks for the info Bapu. And yeah I hate Waves too but I love their plug-ins. And as far as NI goes, the only plug I use from them is Guitar Rig that comes with Sonar. And I think I've only used it once or twice. I own Massive and one other synth (can't remember the name) but haven't installed either one since Sonar 7. something. Mike

...fell out with Waves due to their dubious sales / marketing tactics... V8 installations will completely uninstall previously installed Waves versions V3, V4, and V5 of ALL products. Youch! Jeez, are these guys a subsidiary of Native Instruments now? Looks like your previous falling-out was prescient. If it's any consolation, the rest of us appreciate you sharing your pain with us so we can learn from your mistake.
