Waves licensing center

I hope it's ok to post this here...

I work back and forth between my Studio and laptop, and hate having to remember to "release" all my Waves licenses back to the cloud after finishing with one so that they're available to bring into the other later, and then visa-versa.

Does anyone know if there's a way to use Waves on both without having to screw around with Waves Licensing Center?

Thanks for any ideas!

Gavin

Only it you install your licenses on a USB Drive,
in which case you can move them from PC to PC
without having to move them to the Cloud...

PS...you'll need to get them installed first...
so you'll either need offline installers, or
use the LC to install on both PC's and then
move them back and forth...

I'm ALMOST tempted to install the pirated versions of the Waves plugins I legally own just so i don't have to deal with this crap... but then I'm opening myself up to:

1) Temptation
2) Crapware

Option #3, which may be the most popular solution: forget Waves. Despite the hype, there's really nothing essential in the Waves catalog that cannot be replaced by products from more customer-friendly companies. It's not 2003 anymore.

Exactly what I did - i got so fed up with WUP and endless licencing issues, even though I own quite a bit of waves stuff (Gold, GTR etc) I dumped the lot - life is so much nicer not having to deal with Waves, and as BIT says, you can get the same, if not much better elsewhere.

Bitflipper is right but only partially cause i do find the waves tools to be hard to find elsewhere in an all in one package ....stuff like imager , metering , de noiser , de esser ect .... To get the equivalent , you will have to compose with a lot of brands combinaison ....

They are still good plugs, and even though I don't buy any additional ones anymore, some of the ones I own see a lot of use for a reason.

Surprisingly, licensing was never an issue at all (went the USB way from the beginning) and even upgrade to win10 followed by reinstallation of latest version was smooth (despite expired WUP, which I just don't believe in)

Agreed. No other vendor offers as much quantity in one bundle as Waves does. If you're intent on getting every plugin you'll ever need in one go, then Waves is your only option.

It's just not a requirement.

3) Could get you a lifetime ban on forums for even mentioning this.

When Waves has their super sales and freebies I use that to get a second license. The cloud thing is OK but having an iLok and eLicenser, I just don't want another USB stick.  I'm betting the reason way Waves has to work hard to compete is you don't have this hassle using products from Melda and IK. There are plenty of developers that are multi machine friendly.  Compared to other companies that require dongles Waves has a friendly way of switching licenses between machines.

Well three hours of precious free time wasted trying to get Ableton Live to open my project and it keeps crashing. Tracked it down to a Waves plugin AGAIN. I've uninstalled and re-installed numerous times and Waves just keep failing on me.

I think I might just about be convinced to purge them all....

Despite Waves' idiosyncratic installation, licensing, and maintenance schemes, there are reasons why they're the big dog in the plugin world. Their stuff works as advertised, is generally more stable than most, and in recent years has been available at crazy-cheap prices during their frequent promos. Many professionals have spent thousands of dollars on Waves plugs that have been sold lately for peanuts -- the same stuff that's been used on countless commercial recordings.

Classic plugs like L1 and C1 still get a lot of use at my place. They always do what I want them to do.

The whole Renn bundle is rock-solid and works better than many newer competitors. The H-series plugs are also reliable workhorses.

The Abbey Road package is full of vibe and character, as are many of the modeled plugs with names like Kramer, CLA, and Scheps. The SSL, API, and Neve emulations have been pro mainstays for years.

Nobody does multi-fx boxes better -- the new Greg Wells stuff is fantastic, and the rest of the Artist Sig series is a lot of fun.

Finally, I would not want to be without a lot of their more utilitarian tools like MaxxBass, MaxxVolume, Vocal Rider, and Center.

For many if not most of the Waves plugs I use, I haven't found equivalents elsewhere, so I'm going to disagree with the claim that all Waves stuff can be replaced with products from other vendors (who may or may not be more customer-friendly).

Bash Waves all you want (a common pastime), but the fact remains that they're used more than anything else in the pro world.

Cheers,
Eddie

I have Waves Linear Phase Multiband Compressor and don't need it.

The WUP is up tomorrow - anyone want to swap something for it before I lose the ability to transfer? PM me if so... :)
